Noisy Cicadas Have Arrived

Was hoping we would not get any visits from the noisy Cicadas this year. Oh well. They have arrived.
Walked outside early this morning and could not stand the noise. It was a high pitch buzzing sound all over the yard.
This sound is the male cicada mating call, of course. Soon after mating, they will die. The eggs left behind by the female will burrow into the ground.
Heard on the news to expect them this year. These are from what is called Brood-X and last emerged in 2004. So, they are back, 17 years later. We will get another brood in 2024, called Brood XIX, 13 year emergence.
Nature has much to offer. Mostly good. And these are not too bad. The birds enjoy them for lunch and dinner.
Photo is mine. Snapped this one on my backyard tulip poplar tree.

First time to see the insect causing all that noise. We also have that in our place especially those wooded places we can hear them doing their noise. I can tolerate them as long as they are not too many. But when they are just too noisy it can be irritating to the ears.

Great capture. This time of year is a bounty for the birds. Always a positive to the negatives.

I actually like the noise they make but I have not heard them yet over here, I go out a bit at night and stand on my porch so perhaps they will begin their song soon,

There are different types of cicada. The annual ones are not as noisy and I don't mind those either. They remind of me my childhood. But these 13 and 17 year cicadas that emerge are crazy. People have lost their hearing to the hight pitched noise. They come in droves.
