Did anyone get the license number of that Mack truck that ran me down? This really is me, by the way. Normally when I’m up at this hour, I’m getting ready to go to bed, not getting up. That second Covid vaccine threw me for a loop today. Among the “joys” it gave me was a tingling sensation in my face. I called the triage nurse, and I made the mistake of telling her that my dear aunt of blessed memory had Bell’s palsy, and that three of my four grandparents had strokes. She ordered me to go to the emergency room right away. I would not have given it a second thought had I not had the shot. The ER doctor agreed with me. Still, it was good to be checked out. Then, when I got home, the temperature variation began. In the space of about two hours I went from freezing while sitting in a tub of hot water to being so hot I had an ice pack on my neck. Now, the funny thing about that: in both cases — the freezing and the sweating — my body temperature registered at a comfortable 97.7°. Don’t think it’s been fun, because it hasn’t been. Now, I hope this story doesn’t scare you out of getting the vaccine if you’re on the fence. If you think about it, vaccines do this to our bodies. When you get a flu shot, it can usually mimic the feeling of having the flu. When I had the MMR (mumps, measles, rubella) vaccine my lymph nodes swelled just as if I had the mumps. And, if you don’t want the vaccine, I understand. I personally think a little bit of suffering for a day or two is much better than having Covid again. Here’s Warren Zevon, explaining the joys of a vaccine:

That "tingling in the face" thing would have worried me, too. I'm glad you went in and got that checked out. My "normal" temp is 97F. I don't see a problem with it.

@myklj999 Mine drops to 96 if I'm not feeling very well... When that endocrinologist first diagnosed me with hyperthyroidism, he overdosed me with meds and my temp stayed at 93 for a week. I kept taking hot soaks trying to bring it up again. I fainted several times before he'd let me drop the dose back down.

@DaddyEvil — the only time it’s problematic is when you try to convince the know-it-all doctor that 99.2 is a FEVER for you if your normal temperature is 97.4.

@FourWalls Oh, yes! I went round and round with my last doctor over what my "normal" temp is supposed to be. When I changed doctors two years ago I insisted they take my temp every time I go in so they knew what "normal" was for me. I'm not fighting doctors who don't know that not everyone is normal at 98.6.

Hope you are feeling better by now. I read that those who had covid seem to have a stronger reaction to the shots.

Believe it! Everything calmed down except for the headache, and I’m taking Tylenol for that.

I had covid back just before Christmas, so that’s probably why I’ve had a little rougher time with the shot.

@anya12adwi — they have. Most places are lax for people who’ve been vaccinated.

You're right. 24-48 hours of some discomfort is worth it. Hubs had the chills after the first shot. He couldn't warm up. I'm sorry you had such a bad time of it and had to go to the ER. I hope you're back to normal now.

What is this “normal” you speak of? The triage nurse sent me as a precautionary measure. As I told the ER doc, if I hadn’t had the shot I wouldn’t have even thought about the tingling in my face, because I’ve had much worse bouts of it. Thanks!

I read that people who’d had covid weren’t having that bad a time with the second dose. Just goes to show you we’re all individuals.

@FourWalls truly we all have to be individuals, or there would be no Dilbert!

Thank you. The only problem after the long night I had is the headache. I had that when I had covid, and with the first shot.
