We have our name on the gate

Many sporting events could not function without sponsors and the endurance riding scene in Western Australia is no different. The sponsors are recognised in various ways at the different events. At the small ride we attended at the weekend, the logos of some of the sponsors were put up in full view of riders coming into the vetting ring. We were pleased to see our logo up there with the rest. As this ride was actually the State Championship (transferred from an event cancelled because of a COVID lockdown, we sponsored a horse-rug but normally we have a voucher for several free photos. While people are pleased to be able to get photos from us, we do earn money from the photos we sell so we’re happy to be sponsors. We also give free photos if the club wants some to use as advertising. In the photo, our logo is on the left. In the background, you can see my chair which is at the side of the vetting ring. If there is a long time between horses trotting out for inspection, I get the chance to sit down for a while.

Very nice. It's also nice you get to sit down if the wait is very long. I'm sure your feet and legs thank you for that.

We are sometimes there for three hours so it's good to sit down for a while.

Wow, that's awesome! Chair is important. You need to sit down while doing your job sometimes.

If you are on your feet for several hours at a time, a chair is a necessity.

@JudyEv when is this event? I heard of new cases in Australia. You're not affected?

@prinzcy We have an event next weekend then every fortnight (mostly) until about November. Our state is pretty much free of covid at the moment and we can go wherever we like without masks. But we can't go to another state.

Sometimes I can stay seated and take photos from my chair. But other times I walk up and down the sidelines of the vetting ring.

@rebelann I sometimes get a blurred shot but I can also set the speed quite fast.

I am glad you got your name on the gate. Having a chair when we know that the waiting is long is smart.

@JudyEv Having a chair where to sit and a book is the best when you know that you are going to wait for long time.

@LadyDuck I wouldn't be game to take a book as I would get too involved and perhaps miss a horse. The wait isn't usually more than perhaps 5 minutes or so. Sometimes I take photos from my chair. After all, I'm an old lady!!

We do enjoy what we do. It's still a hobby but as you say it's fulfilling and we more than cover costs so it's all good. The people love having photos of themselves and their horses.
