Honey testing

Adulterated honey is what one sees these days even those who have been in the industry for years. The consumer can however get the honey tested for its purity. There are several ways and one such is to dip a dry match stick in honey and lighting it. It will light if the honey is pure If you dip the match stick in water you will see it will not light. I am satisfied with the honey I use. I have it every day in warm water first thing in the morning.

You have to read the label carefully to see if the honey has been adulterated in the US. It will say something about syrup if it has been adulterated. By law, if it says "pure honey" here, it can't have any additives in it. "Pure Honey: A “pure honey” label means that you are getting 100% honey, without any other ingredients (such as corn syrup, which is sometimes added to industrial honey to reduce costs)." Excerpt taken from: Oh, and you have the match test backwards... If the match lights, the honey isn't pure.

@allknowing The US has lots of laws that cover what is allowed and not allowed when describing foods here.

Pure honey is rare to find... Even the branded products use synthetic honey. It could not be compared to real honey carefully produced by the local beekeeper.

But there are tests that will let you know which is pure and which is not

Getting anything pure is not easy here. One way is to identify honeycomb on the trees in your garden and ask someone to extract honey from that in front of you. That is how you will get the purest honey. I did not about the test you mentioned to check the purity of honey.

There is a small Farm Store near me that sells in bulk. You can get different kinds from different flowers and you can buy local honey too. You can choose raw, strained or filtered. Raw has parts of the honeycomb and little legs and antennas in it. Strained has no honeycomb but still a few legs here and there. Filtered is still a pure honey, but it's free of body parts. Real honey in a store is harder to find. You have to look at the label or you'll get a blend. I like a hot lemon with honey before bed.

Of course the match stick won't light for it's dipped in water. Will you explain it?

But it will light if dipped in pure honey. Just for comparison I mentioned water.

@allknowing okay. I miss it for there's no period on the sentence. "It will light if the honey is pure If you dip the match stick in water you will see it will not light."

There are lots of brands in India claiming to be pure but in actual adulterer. There are some tips to check whether it is pure or not.
