While we were waiting

While we were waiting for my husband to get his hearing aids, we ended up participating in a fire drill. We were up on the fourth floor. If it had been real and not a drill we would have gone down the stairs, but the receptionist who was leading us took us to the elevator. We went down to the basement and out a door. Employees had to sign a sheet saying they were there. I do not know how they would know if they successfully evacuated all Veterans and all the people working on the building.

Glad it was only a drill. I remember back in school, we had them all the time.

I think the laws changed this year and we did fewer fire drills and tornado drills than usual.

@GardenGerty I remember one drill where we had to close the windows, pull the drapes and stack the desks close to the windows, then go out in the hall... it may have been during the Cuban missile crisis.

We were at the Medical facility for the veterans. I do wonder about people who were having surgical procedures or whatever.

@GardenGerty I stand corrected. I know what you mean about the surgical procedures.

That's interesting. I never had to evacuate a building other than a motel for a fire drill.

We do at school. I also arrived to do a reset at a grocery once and the fire safety system malfunctioned and went off. Work was cancelled that day. I also was shopping in a Wal Mart once that had a drill. We had to wait for the fire trucks to show up and give us an all clear.

@GardenGerty Actually, one time I was in a movie theater that had to evacuate. I was in a mall too when there were tornado warnings. They weren't anxious for people to leave the mall as I recall.

I hope you enjoyed it. I would have told them I was waiting for my appointment and stayed seated. If they insisted, I would have gone home.

Nope, I wanted to know where to go if there was a fire and the audiologist was actually the one that was told to pull the alarm.

Hubby had his doubts about the safety as there was no intercom announcement that this was a drill.

Glad that you participated in the mock drill.....its like a refresher training in case of emergency. Since it was a mock, I can understand your using of the elevator., otherwise it's a strict NO. Hope you had good time

I have no idea. They have systems in place I think to ensure that in the event of a real emerengency they can keep track of who has been "rescued" and who might still need it.

They might rely on word of mouth.

It was. We saw parts of the facility we had not seen. There are lots of construction workers present as well.

They do this thing every year at the local mall. I hope it's useful.

You always hope there are at least enough informed people to help all the others.

@GardenGerty They had to evacuate 15 days ago because of the flooding and they had no problems.

We could have managed the stairs. I think the receptionist was tired.
