Not very pleasant

For the most part I love where I live. The neighbors are not really close. To the side and in back there is lots of vegetation growing. There are trees and vines. Basically we barely peek at one another. This morning, however in back of me, the neighbor lady is busy yelling at her dog. Not mad, really and not cussing, but just yelling commands. I know this because I was hanging clothes outside. In the county they are asking us to try to control electric usage because we are in a heat advisory. they do not want to have rolling black outs. Hanging the laundry means that I do not use electricity with the dryer and I do not heat up the house. It is just not very pleasant to listen to this lady yell at the dog. "EHH get here! Do that!" I wonder if the dog would like a kinder tone of voice.

So, where you live, the government and/or utility companies have failed the people miserably by not building enough power plants or ensuring enough capacity to meet peak demand. Are they going to ask you to turn off your A/C next? Geez. We have the opposite problem here where I live. They recently built a power plant we don't need. So it sits idle most of the year, although they do fire it up when demand goes up, although it still only runs at about 50% capacity. But I guess that's a good problem to have. I remember growing up in South Florida and having rolling blackouts in the winter. It rarely gets cold in South Florida, but when it does, all 10 million people that live there turn their heaters on in their homes at the same time, causing demand to surge. But that was back in the 70s/89s. Now, thanks to global warming, it doesn't really ever get cold there now.

I have lived in central Kansas for over thirty years. This is the only time I remember this little area getting this notice. I believe it is more an infrastructure issue. We had water lines failing last year, so they are fixing them this year. We are going to have a planned outage sometime this summer so they can replace a transformer and that may be part of the issue, old, outdated equipment.

@GardenGerty Much of our infrastructure is starting to show its age. Glad their addressing it where you live.

My neighbour yells sometimes at her dogs and goats. and she does cuss. But overall, she is a great neighbour. I do like hanging my clothes out.

I have not hung things out much this year.I am inclined to think her dog would act better if she did not yell.

@LadyDuck I have a naturally loud voice and I have to work on it, but it is not a naturally mean voice.

I'm sure the dog would respond better to a kinder tone. Your clothes will smell so much better hanging on the line.

@GardenGerty My mother loved fresh sheets on the bed after being on the line. They do smell wonderful. I don't have that option.

I enjoy peace and quiet, and not neighbors like this. But they are everywhere it seems.

I only use the dryer in the winter, when heating up the house is wanted.

I live in the "burbs" and as our houses are close together, I do have to deal with hearing the neighbors. One side is very, very quiet for the most part . . . the other ugh. I can hear her yelling/cussing at everyone in the house - including her dogs - and I can hear her phone conversations.

Sorry about the dog issue. My nearest neighbors basically haul their pooches around by the neck instead of teaching them things. I've seen them watching me when I am out on the property working with my dog- if I am too sweet toned Rufus will run right over me.

Yes, you have to be firm, but the yelling just did not seem to be conveying any meaning.

Some can be quite uncaring about their actions. And they are touchy too if we bring that to their notice.

I don't like when people yell at their animals like that. I always hang our clothes out spring through autumn, I love the smell of freshly dried clothes from the line. Stay safe with the heat.

Good that the dog is not ill treated as is being done by some. Yes she could have been softer in her voice.

I have a neighbour who yells like that, not at dogs but at the people in her house. I also don't use a dryer. I think it's much nicer hanging the clothes outside to dry, actually.

I use a dryer part of the time, but sheets and bedding are especially nice hung outside. I do not think yelling is very effective unless it is to stop someone from danger.

Tell her to stop telling at the dog. We have people here who yell at the.dogs as well. Dogs don't respond to yelling. We do not own a dryer. We hang out washing, even in winter.
