When to allow the gray to show.

I have never dyed my hair but I have had some coloured streaks from time to time. When I reached the age that the grey was beginning to appear I decided against going for total colouring. It occurred to me that sooner or later the dying would have to stop, I also had noticed that people who used dark colouring experienced hair thinning and in some cases even balding. I am now completely grey but my hair is thick. If you choose to dye your hair at which age would you decide to stop and leave it to turn grey?

Mine is getting quite white now. But it accentuates my gorgeous tan. I don't think I'd ever dye my hair.

Maybe you could dye it blue.

@marguicha I wonder if it will turn slightly green if I swim enough. I can always tell the blonde kids whose parents have a pool because their blonde hair is slightly green in the Summer.

At about 25 my hair started to grey. By 30 it was almost all grey. Now it's white. I never considered coloring to hide the grey. I was just happy none of it fell out lol.

I am glad that we are making a case for white hair. Turning white seems to enhance a man's image. We must do the same for ourselves.

@TheHorse I'm a Swede from Minnesota. I don't tan very well. By summer's end, I'll have pretty good color but only after many sunburns. One Halloween, I used a temporary coloring that matched my old light brown hair. I looked like a young man again and was tempted to leave it in for a day or two. But didn't.

Me too. My hair turned prematurely grey/while. But I'm still a handsome son of a b*tch. And the white actually contrasts with my golden tan better than my blondish brown did.

I dye my hair with casting. In my case, my hair got thinner after chemotherapy. I wish it was thick but that won´t happen.

@TheHorse It is a dye with no ammonia. I´m felling fine, thanks. Of course there are always some side effects to chemo, but without it I would ot be here

@marguicha I know two ladies one in her 50s and the other in her sixties and both of them grew back a good head of hair afterwards. So be patient, yours may thicken with time.

My grey hair is started to grow, I can say that I am not getting younger anymore, I used to pluck it but I started to think of just embracing it, but sometimes I still want to pluck it... I am trying to grow it and use it as my new hair design... hehehehe... When I started to see it I panicked but now I am trying to embrace it, I saw it grow I realize that I can't really stop time heheh and stay young, but to really accept the fact that I am getting and older and I love it. But I am still a little bit scared but I know by God's grace...

We can stay young at heart and wise with the years. Don't dread getting older, and enjoy the blessings that you enjoy every day, regardless of your hair, or for that matter, your age.

I know several women who dyed their hair for years but decided to stop and let the gray show. The first time I saw them after that it startled me because I didn't realize they were covering the gray... but I don't notice it anymore. I have a white streak in my hair that's been there since I was around 40 years old. It starts above my left eye and goes part way back across my head. My daughter told me a few days ago that the streak is slowly getting wider. (It's white, not gray, because my hair is a deep auburn so won't gray. It just goes straight to white.)

I think some people who color their hair, do it for too many years. I have a friend in her late 70's. Her face looks her age. But she colors her hair a harsh brassy red, which looks so very fake. I know she can do what she wants to do, it's her hair. Personally I think it makes her have a hard look. There is no shame in gray hair. Heck, I earned every one of mine!

My mom dyed her hair up until she just couldn't do it anymore. I'd say two-three months before she passed.

I’m 32 and graying and I do color but I don’t go to hair places for it’s what I do get is this enriched hair color so it’s more pain oil and no chemicals so it just adds color to your natural colored hair. Put in leave for 30 minute wash it out. When will I stop I don’t know. I finally got to that stage of life where my hair mo longer falls out from having kids. I don’t color every couple of weeks I normally wait till all of the color comes out before adding new color. Which allows my natural hair oils to do there thing.

I guess it depends on everyone and maybe when you feel most comfortable of letting it turn grey. That's the best time.
