Brush With The Famous.

United States
August 1, 2021 5:20pm CST
I went to high school with Kent Hrbek, a future MLB player that is currently on the Hall of Fame ballot. I met Woody Allen in an elevator at a hotel. I had a drink with Tony Orlando on Lake Minnetonka. A Minnesota Vikings player, Charlie West visited my parent's home and played catch with me. I brought towels to a hotel room with the Who inside, they all thanked me and tossed me a 20. There are more minor brushes but they aren't coming to mind. They may come out in comments. Please share your brushes with the famous. Extra points if you embellish on the story. Thanks in advance.

Very cool. I accidentally went to Journey three nights in a row. It was the Escape tour and Point Blank opened. I bought tickets with friends and we all went opening night. This was at the Met Center in Minneapolis. A friend that went with me on the first night won two tickets to the second night. We went again. My GF called and said she had a surprise for me. Knowing my GF, I raced over. She handed me two tickets to Journey. I took her of course. That's how I went three nights in a row.

That is awesome that you got to meet all these people, I have not had the pleasure, I did have a paranormal encounter with Elvis shortly after he passed on.

@Vikingswest1 I think they lose their nerve considering I am the vampire queen. Pony and JJ are the only two I know somewhat. This one Pony sang really well, and I am listening to this right now, why I don't know. I mean it is such a great morning nothing to be sad about...but well... Please check his compositions on guitar and piano...they are awesome.

I'm playing it straight this time. All my brushes are true. I'm just giving extra points to those that add an extra untrue event to the brush lol.

@Vikingswest1 Oh gotcha. In that case, I think I met Amy Roland once . But I couldn't be sure, and I didn't want to ask.

@kaylachan Having to ask is risky. I'd rather not know than to look silly.

@cahaya1983 After I looked, I recognized the former PM. A respected leader and an interesting person. Awal was a successful executive but gave it up for stardom. Is he still doing TV shows? I see that Anuar hasn't recorded since 2016, has he retired? Did he ever work with his brother Ziana Zain? That's a fun list of people.

@Vikingswest1 Tun Mahathir Mohamad (ex PM), Awal Ashaari (actor), Anuar Zain (singer) would be a few names you can look up.

A coachload of young nubile Japanese Girl students thought I was Bruce Willis. I did not say otherwise. I signed autographs. Yvonne laughed. I told them all I wanted to Die Hard Under the Boardwalk

Hahah what a great time that would have been. Just think, several women are still treasuring those photos and memories. I'm secretly hoping that a member here from Japan, will see your confession and knows someone that claims to have met Bruce Willis hahah Might make for some fun reading.

Having lived around the DC area, for many years I have seen and talked to briefly many famous politicians. Lucky, I am still alive to tell the tale... The only other celeb I have seen is Patty Labelle at the airport in Atlanta. She was in a doorway of a plane receiving roses. It must be nice to be a celeb most of the time.

It must get old for some too. I wouldn't want to be recognized everywhere I went. I have met several politicians too and I always got the impression that they were used car sales people.

I once saw Wolfman Jack ((Kids, ask your great grandparents who he was)) in a restaurant in Vegas. He was eating French Fries. He said, "Hey, man! It's good to see you again! I'd ask you to join me but you've stuck me with the check one too many times with that, 'I forgot my wallet,' line. So you sit over there at your own table!" I really want the extra points for embellishing but I don't know how. Plus, I have no imagination. So I'll settle for the regular points.

@Vikingswest1 Signed pictures are pretty good. Not as good as French Fries. Did your brother get to work with any other famous DJ's?

@xander6464 My brother was friends with the son of a then popular DJ. George Young. I was friends with the younger brother. Anyway, he always got "early warning" of a celebrity appearing at the station and he'd be there. There was a small restaurant nearby that sold french fries. I wonder if there's a connection.

That deserves extra points. I had a brother that met him at a radio station while they were doing some promo. It was WDGY radio on your AM dial. Got signed photos but he wouldn't share his french fries that day either. Seems to be a pattern emerging.

@Vikingswest1 though hockey is the national game of our country. Its the cricketers who are highly paid and is the most famous sport.
