Happy Harvest!

In some cultures in the Northern Hemisphere, the first day of August is considered the celebration day of the first harvest. In fact, the word "harvest" itself comes from an Old English word that means "autumn" or "August".
It's still hot and dry here, so it's hard to think about summer ending just yet, but the first day of August brings us closer to cooler days, autumn fruits (apples, pears, grapes, pumpkins), and longer nights.
In the recent past, this was a gathering day for us and other families. We'd get together and enjoy seasonal food and time together, knowing that soon summer would be over and the kids would be returning to school. COVID has kept a lot of that from happening this year, and the day has gone by with barely a word. Instead, it's been more like, "oh, yeah... it's August now." Maybe we'll be able to get together again for the first day of Autumn next month.

Somebody is being very optimistic. I think California will be locked down again within a couple of weeks. But that's just my opinion.

@kareng I wish everything was locked down until Covid was gone but that won't happen. They'll do a half-a** job of it like they did this last time so Covid will stay with us.

once we get through some nasty air masses here, it should be pretty nice.
