Amazing What You Can Buy

These days they say you can buy just about anything and after reading this I tend to agree. A piece of cake is on sale from the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Dianna in July of 1981. It will be on the UK auction block next week and has a price tag of about $200-$300. That is all fine and well but the questions are - Why would you want to spend this money on an old piece of cake and Is it really worth it? I guess the most important thing here is that if you have the money you can buy it so why not. Even though they say cake, this is actually a thick slab of white icing that has been decorated with "a sugared only of the Royal Coat of Arms coloured in gold, red, blue, and silver, a small silver horseshoe and leaf spray adjacent." Perhaps it is something that those who are always looking for royal family souvenir items can understand. At the time of the wedding, there were many different wedding cakes baked and presented to important people. This particular icing came from a cake that was given to the staff at the Clarence House, where the Queen Mother lived. Today it is the official residence of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. A staff member of the Clarence House kept the icing wrapped in plastic and her family sold it in 2008. Along with this tantalizing dessert, the winning bidder will get two printed programs from the wedding ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral and another from the official royal wedding breakfast at Buckingham Palace. So if anyone is interested the auction wil take place on August 11 and you can even bid online. Any takers?

For some strange reason, I think someone will spend money on this just to have a souvenir @prinzcy

Not me although I´m now spending more money than what I used to in food. There´s nothing much to do here but eat. I buy some specially good cheeses amd my favorite brand of salami. I haven´t been able to get Jamón Serrano from Spain. They don´t have it at my super. You can sell elsewhere that piece of cake.

If it is to be finally consumed that is a huge amount to spend. It cannot be kept as a souvenir.

I'd have to say no to that. However, if it can be sold, someone will buy it.

I would not even spend $ 1 to have a piece of cake made in 1981... I would never even be sure that it is authentic and not a cake done just to be sold to gullible people.

Probably, if I have too much money that I don't know what else to do with it. Right now that is not the case, so I'll pass. But like you said, there are always people who appreciate the value of such things so I'm sure someone is eventually going to go for it.

Um no I won't waste my money on a 40 year old piece of cake. But you are right, some people will blow their money on such frivolous things.

The programs would be nice to have; but I would pass on the "cake".
