“Metal Tornado” is a 2011 sci-fi flick. It stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Nicole de Boer, and some other, lesser knowns. I wasn’t sure what to think of it initially, but it turned out to be a better film than I was expecting. Though it has been trashed by some snobbish review venues that seem to trash anything that isn’t a big budget Hollywood blockbuster. The film is about a primarily American based company experimenting, looking to harness energy from solar flares to solve Earth’s power/energy needs. An onsite accident (due to a design flaw) causes some magnetic energy to go rogue, creating a weird vortex, which has disastrous repercussions. Things get even worse when a followup experiment at another site, this time in France, results in a secondary, identical, accident (due to the still unresolved design flaw.) With each vortex on the loose, it’s a race against time to “put the genie back in the bottle” so to speak, meaning minimize destruction and save lives. I will actually go against my reviewer colleagues & give this film a high rating and even recommend it.
