Day 54
Deuteronomy 3:21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, “Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so, shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou pass.
22 “Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.”
23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,
24 “O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?
25 “I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.”
26 But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, “Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.
27 “Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
28 “But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.”
29 So we abode in the valley over against Bethpeor.
When you want something, you will do everything you can to persuade the person in charge to give you what you want.
Moses wanted to see the Promised Land. However, Moses sinned against God when he struck the rock to bring water from it instead of speaking to the rock as God instructed him. God told him he would not enter the Promised Land. Moses tried to change God’s mind, but Moses could not persuade God to change His mind. Instead, God brought him up to the top of Mount Pisgah, where Moses saw the land. God also told Moses to encourage Joshua, who would take the children of Israel into the Promised Land.
As Christians, you might persuade people to your cause, but not God. When God tells you no about something, it remains a closed topic. No matter how often you pray, God will not relent. He will, however, give you an alternative for your disobedience. You won’t have what you want, but God will give the honor to another. When He appoints the person in your place, you are to encourage them, not feel bitter because God allowed that person to enjoy what you can’t.
What do you want that remains a closed door in your prayer life? Has God told you why He won’t give you the desire of your heart? Accept God’s answer and work with the person God appoints. You will receive a blessing when you honor God. God showed Moses the Promised Land, even though he couldn’t pass over into the land. He will allow you to see the fruit of your labor in the completion of another.
Let’s pray: Father, many times I don’t understand why You close a door in my life. Give me wisdom and grace to accept Your judgment in the matter and work with the person you appoint in my place. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
