Texas is in Stage 5

The news reports say Texas is in Stage 5 which means everybody whether vaccinated or un-vaccinated needs to wear a mask. That's the CDC guidance.
But our governor won't require or mandate mask wearing because ... he says we are at the point of accepting "personal responsibility" and should wear mask without being "made to".(
Uuhh ... yeah. ALL people always do the right thing without being told to do it.
Meanwhile, our hospitals are filling up.
What's going on in your neck of the woods?

i think it is interesting - texas and Florida are running around doing the same things right now. Both of their governors are on the short list for GOP 2024 presidential possibles.

Yeah? I thought I noticed a pattern. But I wrote it off as my imagination. If you see it too then it can't be my imagination.

Florida is the same as far as not issuing a state-wide mask mandate. Even with them in place, people are going to do what they want. There are people (like me) who can't wear masks for health reasons. And, since you really can't ask a personn's health status or situation, (or shouldn't) you need to leave it up to that person to wear a mask or not.

And as far as I know there is no vaccine mandate either where you are, right? If that's the case, that is the way it should be in my opinion. Can't be forced to take it.

Connecticut has a wonderful governor and many vaccinated people. Those who are vaccinated aren’t required to wear masks and those who aren’t are. I don’t trust those who aren’t vaccinated to do what’s right, so I wear a mask, keep my distance, and sanitize.

These are true stories. This is before COVID-19. One time, I had to take my husband to the hospital … intensive care. I went in the hospital healthy. By the second or third day, I ended up going to the emergency room. I got infected. Where? When? How? I don't know. I just know it had to be in the hospital because that's where I was. They released my husband from the hospital and I go home with him, and I'm sick as a dog!
Another time. I had to take my late husband for a doctor' appointment. This young couple came in and it was clear the girl had “something”! I started worrying about my husband because of his weakened condition, fearing whatever she had she would infect him. We were in the waiting room where everybody was. She was coughing into the air. I tried to move away and get my husband to move away from the couple as far as we could get. My husband finally sees his doctor and we go home. Who do you think got sick? ME!!!
They say this is an infectious disease. They say the Delta variant spreads even quicker that the original COVID-19 virus. They say people get re-infected even if they have had the vaccine. I say: I'm going to protect myself. I think everybody in the world should be in “self-preservation mode” right now. But … you can't make other people look out for themselves. But you can sure take measures to look out for yourself!

@cmoneyspinner Wow! How terrible. I’m a germaphobe, so always try to avoid things like that. When I get pedicures, they know to disinfect the chairs for me - headrests, armrests, everything. We each have to be careful. You are so right.

On the news today, there was a story about an 11 month old baby in Houston with Covid. Had to be airlifted to another hospital 150 miles away as there was no beds. Very sad.

I caught the tail end of the story. I did not know how old the child was. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Third lockdown here in Manila. Same old, same old. These lockdowns do not help at all.

I understand that California has issued a state-wide mask mandate as well.

In my country masks are still mandatory, vaccinated or not. Cases are rising over here. They even encourage double-masking in certain places. I doubt we will be able to go around mask-free, definitely not anytime soon.

We have a mask mandate on buses/subways and in libraries for sure. Probably federal buildings as well. Not sure about concert venues, museums, etc. Stores do not require masks but recommend them.
I think people are more likely not to do something when they are made to do it...

We will continue to wear our masks...not because we have to; but because it makes good sense.

We are mandated to wear.mask. Mandated or not we should take it on ourselves to take care and be safe form our own sake.
