Hubby's Dinner Creation That Bombed

Thursday was my day to add inventory to Girl Boss Boutique. My scheculed time was from 2 to 6 pm which meant I would not be home before 8 pm. My husband is a diabetic and can't just skip a meal or he would crash and be in a coma.
I had everything for a quick spaghetti sauce so told him spaghetti and meat sauce was on the menu and asked if he could handle that. I was told, "yes." So I left all the spices that I add on the stove so there would be no excuses for not being able to find this or that or "I didn't know you put that in it."
I came home and dinner was ready. I didn't want to me mean or harsh but I had to ask what happened to the sauce. He watered it down and it wasn't a sauce anymore. I knew too that he probably did this because of his stomach issues with colitis. So I let that slide.
I sat down to eat and took a couple of bites and then asked, "Did you put ANY seasoning in here?" The answer was of course, "Yes." It didn't taste like it had any.
I ate my dinner and didn't say anything else. But this was a tasteless meal. I'll be enhancing the leftover sauce later today instead of cooking. It's too hot to cook anyway.

Oh dear. Sorry about your bland supper. Hopefully after you doctor it up a bit it will be better the second time around.

So sorry that the sauce was tasteless. I could not stand it either but would eat it.

sounds like some YouTube lessons are needed.
People get scared of spices. My mother-in-law and I once cooked a roast together. She was making the side dish and I was making the road.
She freaked out when I took four cloves of garlic and pushed them well into the roast for baking.
Afterwards, she told me she had freaked out, but from then on she did roasts that way!

@DocAnderson Yes, I suppose they do. It probably would have been fine if he hadn't of added water to it all and watered it down.
This week's menu for him will be burgers, hot dogs, waffles or pancakes. He can handle those.

@DocAndersen You have to weight the pros and cons sometimes and figure out if it is worth taking the chance! Ha!

@kareng when I first started teaching the twins to cook, some of the meals were well not good.
they still from time to time, put less than exceptional effort in on dinner!

Bless his heart! I guess he thought he was helping you out. Maybe if he offers to cook again, you could say that's OK dear! Thanks for the offer..

@snowy22315 I think he has been getting lonely with me being gone so much. I get "I love you" texts whenever I'm gone for several hours.

I've cooked stuff before and when we were eating it we'd both swear I didn't put any spices in it at all... *shrug* It can happen to anyone.

@kareng Yes, making it so there's no chance of a... slight mistake... is usually the best way to go.

Poor guy. I'm sure he tried his best. No matter how simple a meal might be to prepare, some people just don't have the knack for cooking (like me).

@moffittjc Yes, those are all tried and tested. He can also do a good tuna and chicken salad. So I will be good for awhile. I'l have to throw in a Chinese take out every now and then.

He tried; that's what's important. You should do as I do and supervise him cooking a couple of things. My husband is now a decent cook when he follows my recipes.

@LindaOHio It will either be hot dogs or hamburgers. I may have to get him to cook tomorrow also. I have that meeting at the nursing home. May do tuna salad for tomorrow night. We haven't had that in awhile.

I would have disliked it but eaten it anyway. You have to respect the effort that he put.Maybe next time it would turn better.

I seem to remember a TV show to help guys cook in the early days of the Food Network. It was called How To Boil Water.
At least he tried.

That definitely sounds familiar. I don't know what sauce hubby used, but it definitely needed some spicing up!!

He seems like me. My husband says regularly that I didn't put enough spices into certain foods l cook.
