Hello. I hope you're all well. I've just been in Cornwall with my husband and two sons. Cornwall is a county in the south west of England - right at the bottom, on the 'leg' if you look at a map. I'd never been there before.
We decided on Cornwall firstly because I wanted to see Tintagel, and husband wanted to go to Eden Project. We had a look for other things to do in the area. Tintagel is an English Heritage property. As members, we pay a yearly membership and can access over 400 sites for no additional fee. We discover another English Heritage place - Pendennis Castle in Falmouth. I tried to share a picture but it doesn't appear to be working.
We also visited a one acre Japanese garden in the village near where we stayed, and we went to the beautiful village of Boscastle to their Museum of Witchcraft.
I think we all had a good time. It's very hilly in that area. We stayed in a caravan in the middle of nowhere. It was advertised as 'quiet'. It really was - we could hear the wind at night, and occasionally heard the sound of sheep from the next field.
While there wasn't anything much near where we were, it was a good central base for everything we wanted to do. We could see for a few miles across the fields. There were little coves and bits of beach but we didn't explore much of that. We spent some time at Padstow harbour (well, I had some time with husband, and a different time with eldest son, but youngest chose to stay at the caravan on both occasions).
We had a rather enjoyable time, and we're now thinking about where to go next. That won't be for a while, though, as we are now skint and need some time to save up again!
Have you missed me? Have you been away or have any plans to do so? I'd love to read about it.

Of course we missed you! Thanks for the update. Sounds like you had fun. I always wanted to visit England, Scotland and Wales and see all the castles and watch for Nessie! :-) We plan on driving down to the Florida Keys. Don't know if we'll make it -- we're older; and that's a long drive.

I do love castles - we have a lot of them. Where I live, there is only really one that is nearby and easily accessible. We've been to a few in different areas of England, though. We have lots of lovely places. Wales is lovely, too. Haven't been there for a while. Last time we went, we visited Cardiff Castle.
I've never been to Scotland. Might do that one day, but still got lots of England to explore
Our drive to Cornwall was about 270 miles, I think. Including a couple of stops for breaks and lunch, it took about 6 hours to get there and 8 to get back (traffic was bad on the way home). It's a good thing I like driving. I do get tired, though. My husband and sons need regular breaks to stretch their long legs
How far is it for you to Florida Keys? Do you know how long it will take?

@pumpkinjam You are so fortunate to live in a country with so much history. It's 1,422 miles and about 24 hours of driving to Key West from NE Ohio.

@LindaOHio wow, that's almost 2.5 x the entire length of Britain!
I do hope you make it, but expect you'd need a few breaks. Perhaps you will find something interesting along the way where you can stop. We've found some lovely places that way - by accident, driving through somewhere on the way to somewhere else. We've added a possible holiday destination to our future list as we happened to drive through a village we'd never heard of before. It's only a couple of hours from home

This was the first time we'd been to a Japanese garden. At the Eden Project, they have a small Japanese section in their gardens so we saw that as well.
The Witchcraft Museum was very interesting. As a witch myself, and currently in the process of writing a book on the topic, I thought it appropriate to visit while we were nearby.

@pumpkinjam We had a Japanese Garden in Monte Carlo, my favorite places where to go to read a book during summer. I often think to be a witch myself, I am attracted by everything concerning witchcraft.
