Vaccine mandate in NYC

My in-laws are having a 40th wedding anniversary in September. They were gonna do a party at a restaurant to celebrate and invite many people there. But now that's not gonna happen since our mayor (de Blasio) decided that he is gonna only allow vaccinated people to dine indoors at restaurants.
Technically, I guess they could've found a place that has a large outdoor area, but I don't think they'd wanna do that, especially since you can't know what the weather will be like. If it ends up raining you can't just move the party indoors.
I guess we can just go somewhere ourselves and celebrate. Just hubby and I, his brother, and their parents. But we'd have to dine outdoors as only his dad is vaccinated.
Obviously de Blasio is doing this (among other things) to force more people to get the vaccine but that is not right. And I don't understand how he is gonna enforce this anyway. A mandate is not a law. I am sure there will be plenty of restaurants that are not gonna comply, especially since only allowing vaccinated people to dine indoors means losing lots of money.
Not only are unvaccinated people not allowed to dine indoors anymore, but they can't go to gyms, indoor concerts, museums, and other places. I wouldn't be surprised if he will require a vaccine to go shop for groceries and other things. Hubby told me he read somewhere that if a store has a dining area (like Costco, for example) people won't be able to shop there unless they are vaccinated. Wonder if that is true.

"While they might not be laws, a mandate is still legally enforceable. In fact, they will often have the same effect as bills that have passed into law. Additionally, mandates can be as widespread. ... The laws can be enforced by the police force." Excerpt taken from:
Why don't you just get vaccinated? There wouldn't be any problem then.
As a citizen, we don't always understand these nuances in legal terms, that why I created this article, to give you a clear idea of…

I do not want to get the vaccine. And I have a right not to get it. No one can force me to get it if I don't want to. And I shouldn't be "forced" to get it to be able to enjoy life.

@prashu228 Definitely not. Neither is offering them money or other free stuff. If people wanna get the vaccine they will do it. They do not need to be bribed or threatened, etc., especially since the vaccine hasn't even been approved yet.

Yep. Nj Chica posted about this, this morning. I'm going to pretty much say what I said in her post.
It's not going to work. The fines that stores and establishments would face hurts them, not those who shop or visit those places. She mentioned movie theaters as another place requiring vaccination, but those places are struggling as it is. According to her post, some places already admitted they are going to flat out refuse to enforce the mandate.
Just like you can't ask a person their health issues to force them to wear a mask, same goes for vaccine status. I can see this not going over well.

Yeah, I've seen her post. Left a comment as well.
Getting the vaccine is a personal choice. No one can "force" anyone to get it if they do not want to, whether it's for a medical reason, or because they are against vaccines, or for some other reason.
And they shouldn't be allowed to ask if a person got the vaccine or require proof of it. That's no one's business. And unethical too.

@lovebuglena You have a good point. The workers at all of those restaurants should also have to show proof of vaccination.

Clearly. Businesses have suffered as it is. This is gonna make it worse.
I can't stand the guy. Can't wait for 2022 so he is outta here. He thinks that those that do not want to get the vaccine will actually go get it now because of this mandate. I don't think so. The majority won't do it. Those that were thinking of getting it but kept putting it off may get it.

Are those that go to dine indoors gonna be asked "Hi, can I see your vaccine card please?" as soon as they walk into the door? And if they will be asked to show the vaccine card then diners should be allowed to ask the restaurant workers to show them theirs. It is only fair.

As this pandemic winds up its second year, I guess some people figure that it's enough already!

@LindaOHio I hear now they’re planning to do booster shots. I wonder if this will be a regular thing now, kind of like they do with the flu?

The party is not for me, so I am not totally bummed about it. But I am not thrilled either.

I understand that there is a mandate and that people should comply. Bit not all people will agree to get the vaccine. I hope they would be able to sort things out regarding the venue.

@lovebuglena I hope it will be removed as a mandate because not all does want to be vaccinated.

I hope this mandate will not be around for long. I have a ticket to the Elton John concert that was supposed to happen in April 2020 but never did because of covid. it was rescheduled for March 2022. If this mandate will still be in effect then I won't be able to attend.
My mother-in-law decided she will not do the party... It didn't feel right doing it because of the mandate and because many people that she was gonna invite are not vaccinated.

@jobelbojel Yes. Also, there are people that cannot get the vaccine for medical/health reasons. Will they be excused and allowed to do all the things that only vaccinated people can do? Or are they screwed?

It makes no sense to only allow vaccinated people to dine indoors as they can still get covid and spread it to other people. Checking to see if a person is vaccinated doesn't mean that that person is covid-free.
The vaccines are not very effective anyway, especially when it comes to delta and other variants. A lot of people who had the vaccine still get covid and not all have it easy when they get it.
