The Food Delivery Boy 2

The soup that the chief training officer sent my recovering daughter came in with tasty dishes: bulalo, saucy caldereta, and spicy tofu. My elder daughter handed the food delivery boy his pretty large tip because we didn't even pay for the meal. Astonished, the 'grab' delivery boy exclaimed a heartfelt thanks and added, "Ma'am, if not for that order, I would not have earned anything today, this tip is a bonus." My daughter simply answered, "Take care going home," for it was already dark. Exposed to the virus, our delivery boys are actually among the first to feel the state of a 'trying to survive' economy. For those of us who can afford a measly sum - be generous. Even if scanty, it will come back a bounty.

I feel for them especially when I see them rushing under the heat of the sun, or rain-soaked under fly-overs, or snoring under the shade of a tree awaiting an order. These delivery boys are also wary of the pandemic 'virus' threat but they have no choice but make the ends meet.

@rakski Yes, sitting on hard pavements with their backs against hard walls with only the canopy of a tree for comfort. In my vicinity, some delivery boys use bicycles. They cover six kilometers to and fro for a single order delivery.

If you know of any Filipino, ask him or her to cook the dishes for you. Am sure they will oblige. It's in our custom not to say no when requested.

@eileenleyva Sadly, I don't know any Filipino. When I went to Kolkata, which is a big city, there were Chinese and thai and also Singaporean people. But no Filipino.

True they are one of the most in-demand services nowadays delivery of everything you need from goods to food. I also remember the overflowing of food fruits were given to my wife at home since she could not cook at that time since she was also stricken with the virus. The guards would usually leave the delivery at our door since my wife could not go out yet to receive the delivery.

@eileenleyva We thanked them one by one. Even after we passed through our crisis we still show our gratefulness to them.

@rsa101 Send them cards when you can. Nurses feel especially warm knowing their patients remember their love and care.

That is why I believe that goodness will continue to live in the hearts of men. People are very supportive of those in need. Did you write a discussion about the fruits you and your wife received? The senders must be credited.

Wow! What is truly wonderful is you recognizing the good in people. I simply wrote a story but you saw the kindness. That is amazing. I think that is the more important theme in the story.

That is so true. They are frontliners too, risking their lives just to earn money. So nice of your daughter for giving the tip to the guy. I'm sure that made his day.

The 'grab' delivery boy could have gone home empty, his family would sleep hungry. Just so glad the training officer thought of sending nourishment to my sick daughter, in so doing, she also made it possible for a lowly grab driver put food on his table.

The dishes certainly looks the same. That vegetable stew is definitely soothing on a cold day. It's actually a family favorite which mothers prepare on weekends, when the family is gathered together for meals.

@nzlz123 Oh, that would be a tamarind-based dish we call 'sinigang' - sweet, sour and spicy. Good for cold days.

Among the best-loved dishes in Philippine cuisine. Yup, tipping, no matter how modest, is sharing what we have to our neighbors.

Yup. The saucy caldereta is every Filipino's favorite spicy tomato sauce mixture. Enjoyed the thick umami flavor. Yum Yum

Yup. 1/3 of the total amount of the meal delivered. The delivery boy could buy a kilo of rice and enough ingredients for a family supper. It is a family rule - share the blessings.

I believe so. That is why although we are not rich money-wise, we are never in desperately need of anything. Blessings just pour in, like these free dishes. God us always so good. He provides us sustenance most especially on times like this when my daghter needs nourishment.
