Pruning

Most plants need pruning sometimes shallow and sometimes deep. Deep pruning results in robust new shoots but one has to be careful while doing it. The right time has to be chosen for it.
Our gardener did some deep pruning at a wrong time and we lost our robust passion fruit vine.
It is not just flowers but there is joy in seeing new shoots on freshly pruned plants.

Just like people plants need a haircut from time to time, some more often and some less often

When the hair grows again we trim it again but not so with plants. Trimming is done so that they yield better

@louievill I am with you on this. Once it yields it will be time for it to be trimmed again. Same with roses.

@allknowing my basil needs to be trimmed or pruned often otherwise it would bolt or flower , once it reaches this stage the leaves are no longer ideal for making pesto. Bolting is also a signal for some plants to die because they are already assured of a next generation, keeping it trimmed and prevented from flowering gives us an endless supply, it's only allowed to flower if we need seeds.
