I saw my dad last night, and he gave me a bag of lychees (see picture). He didn't know what they were, but I did (a friend of his gave them to him). He wouldn't try them, but I'm always down to try something new. You peel them, and a white, moist fruit envelopes a white pit. I really liked them, and it tasted kind of like a pear to me. Have you ever tried a lychee? He also gave me watermelon, which is good, with or without salt.

Wow, that looks a lot like rambutan. I wouldn't even know it was lychee if I didn't read your post.

yes thats rambutan not lychees. I think he just added the wrong picture. lychees don't have those spikes like that. lychees skin is smooth and does not have any hairy spikes.

We used to have lychees with ice-cream at our Chinese restaurant. It was one of my favourite desserts.

It is something like lychee but it's not called lychee. Although it looks similar to it when peeled. It's called Rambutan which means hairy as its hairy red appearance shows.

@cacay1 yes, as it is grown there but in India it is imported and is very expensive

I like lychee, although I think the one shown in the picture is rambutan. My dad just sent me a bunch that he got from my grandparents' orchard recently.

@AmbiePam I could not tell exactly what it was from the picture. Thank you for the explanation. I am not a pear person and have not heard of these before. That was nice of him to give you a watermelon.

I have never had them. But they look like aliens. lol Or a big giant bug. I am not sure I would like it mostly because I don't like fruit. But looking at it on my plate would surely give me the heebeegeebees.

As others have commented, that's a rambutan. Some have green hair. Rambutans are different from lychees and longans are different. Here's a picture of all three.

I love lychee too. But the picture does not looks like the lychees available here. It looks like something else. Are lychees in America like that?
