Normalized Hate

United States

You see it everywhere. If you support x, you're evil. If you don't follow the right ideology, you're stupid, a lunatic and you engage in hate speech. Higher Learning teaches that certain groups are evil and not welcome. Businesses refuse customers with different views. If you don't follow mandates, you're an idiot, evil, selfish and should be excluded from society. It sure seems like adults have turned into children and hate for others is acceptable as long as people agree with you. But if you step outside the box, you become a target of hate. I see posts here all the time with rhetoric that can only be described as hateful. Have we devolved into a society that isn't capable of communication and discussing intelligently and rationally? Is the "other team" your enemy? Do you feel justified when you spread hate about anything you disagree with? It's sad that the US has a middle school mentality when it comes to the rights of others. Hate is normal now.

I so agree with this post. What we have allowed ourselves to become is very dishearten to say the least. Shame on us for allowing it to be so.

I sometimes catch myself falling in to the bash/cancel culture too. When it's all around like it is now, it's hard to debate with name calling being the norm. I get snarky too.

I have commented and posted numerous times about this hate and evil that exists among some here and all over the world. It is totally unnecessary. People being judged unfairly. When you don't really know the truth, you should not jump to conclusions, but many do. Kindness instead of division was my latest post. But many could care less the hate and evil thy spread. There is no good outcome with this attitude.

I was going to comment to that discussion but I sometimes say things that aren't considered nice. Kindness is the best way to go but sometimes people need to hear someone else's truth

The times we live in accentuates this kind of behavior. However, saying higher learning says we should exclude certain groups is not correct in fact it is the opposite.. Most skinheads, ultra right and Hitler following groups have not had higher education and are societal dropouts and misfits. Don't attack other groups in a piece designed to unite others. Hatred is too strong a word anyway, it is more like disbelief and lack of understanding. I don't know many of my peers who hate people who won't get vaccinated..it is more like disbelief and seemingly callous behavior from others who persist in this despite what they have been told and educated about over and over again. No, vaccines aren't perfect, but they are a damn sight better than the alternative, IMHO.

@Vikingswest1 Nope, and I don't go along with you. Plenty of conservatives have had higher learning, and why do you think Republicans get so many votes if that is the case? Where have you been? lol. I wasn't being snarky and I have no hatred for anybody. You see what you want to see obviously..when you don't agree that is what conversatives do..get nasty. Done talking now..this could go on all day. I am sure you will want the last word to "prove me wrong." Just agree to disagree and we can be remain friends.

@snowy22315 Oh. We can still be friends if I shut my mouth and keep my opinion to myself? You sure provided an excellent example. Thanks!

Higher learning is teaching that Conservatives should be excluded. That's been pretty obvious over the last 12 years, where have you been? Thank you for sharing your hate against people that don't trust an untested vaccine. That was a good example. The snark was a nice touch.

It has been building the last few years very badly. I wiped out about half my fb friends list the last few years because of it. That was almost the only things they posted

I have 50 year friends that turned into horrible people. I had always been able to have normal discussions with these people but after Obama, things changed. Yay for my side became boo for your side. They attacked me when I said that both sides were evil and corrupt. I walked away from it all in January.

@wolfgirl569 Truth? I didn't realize it at the time but I believe it turned after Gingrich and his Contract With America in 1994. The rise of cable and a 24/7 news cycle gave a new birth to pundits that clashed and set a team mentality tone in order to get ratings. It might be beyond repair now.

@Vikingswest1 I have a cousin who is a preacher. He was aa very good friendly guy. But after Trump started running for president he started posting the if you dont do this or believe that then get out crap. I told him how unchristian and hateful that stuff came off. He still continued so I dont even have him on fb anymore. If I see him out I will still talk to him but if anything like that would come up I would just let him know I am done and walk away. Yes I seen a lot of changes in people after Obama won and it just got worse after Trump won.

Ah, well. You know who they are. And what kind of people they are. They know it, too. They make up things a lot. And you can smell that stink even under whatever cover-up they do. If you don't go along with their imaginations, you're an "idiot". Like you said in your poem/free verse... Good luck with this post.

I apologize. I didn't see this response until now. It's been acceptable to spread hate for years. Now it's only acceptable if you hate the right people. Yes. I know who they are. They show themselves every day.

People can't even disagree without being called names. What happened to civil discourse?

I suppose having intelligent discussions takes too much effort. It also seems very hard for some to leave when no civil conversation can take place, which is usually the only logical thing to do. As you mention higher learning and middle school, I suppose a flawed education is to be blamed. Schools should definitely focus on teaching kids how to socialize properly because it is no longer a skill to give for granted. I don't know what it was like in the past, if the internet is also responsible for this, but something can and should be done.

I honestly believe that SM has broken down the art of communication. People have lost the ability to interact with others with manners and respect. A great deal of what people post online, couldn't be said in a face to face meeting. SM has made it easy to offend, insult and criticize others with no consequences. Respect has been lost.

I'm pretty isolated and get most of my people time online. I just got tired of the everyday wars where no one wins. I just use MyLot now but still see some of the divisive and hateful rhetoric by a few members. Not nearly as much as the other SM sites.

In fact hate is not normal . Certain political entities cultivate hate for selfish and devilish gains.

I've called people lunatics and crazies here. . . because they are. Marjorie Taylor Greene is an absolute nut. I don't think that ALL people who disagree with my political beliefs are lunatics or crazy. I don't like Mitch McConnell but I wouldn't describe him as crazy. Jewish Space Laser lady on the other hand. . .
