Day 73
1 Samuel 12:19 And all the people said unto Samuel, “Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.”
20 And Samuel said unto the people, “Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
21 “And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
22 “For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.
23 “Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
24 “Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
25 “But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.” (KJV)
How do you know whether or not what you desire is good for you?
Israel asked Samuel to give them and king, and he did so according to the Lord who told him the people didn’t reject him, Samuel, but they rejected Him as King over them. When Samuel anointed Saul as king over the people, he asked the people what he did wrong, and he would repay them. They told him he did nothing wrong. Samuel told them they needed to obey the LORD and serve Him. Then Samuel called on God to send thunder and rain on them because of the evil of their hearts. When God brought the thunder and rain, they repented and asked Samuel to pray for them and never stop praying. Samuel told the people he would not stop praying for them and they should not stop serving the LORD.
As Christians, you need to pray without ceasing for God to work in your life.
Paul told the early Christians he never stopped praying for them.
Romans 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; (KJV)
Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (KJV)
2 Timothy 1:3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; (KJV)
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. (KJV)
Prayer is the most important act you can do as a Christian. Yet, it is the one most Christians neglect and wonder why their lives are in the mess they are. As Samuel told the people he would never stop praying for the people, you need to pray continually for God to lead you in everything you do.
Set your heart and mind to pray and God will lead you in your prayers for others and yourself.
Let’s pray: Father, as the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, teach me and show me for whom to pray. Guide my thoughts and let my ear be in tune with Your desire for Your people. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
