Distilled Water

United States
August 26, 2021 6:32pm CST
I think it's been around a month or more where distilled water (in the gallons) are hard to find. Sometimes it's just water in general that is hard to find on our shelves. Distilled water is used, as many of you know, in k-cup coffee makers. It's recommended as it keeps the machine working longer. However, things like the CPAP machine use it too and I imagine there is other medical equipment where this is necessary. Have you noticed if the bottled (and gallon) water at stores near you is less available?

So glad you haven't. I've considered buying a brita or zero water pitcher anyway.

@ScribbledAdNauseum There are other products hard to find in the store. Buying online mostly.

@CarolDM The other day a family member had to go to two stores because Walmart was so barren for things. The food lion's here (I'm not sure if you have those in TN) are pretty bad about keeping things stocked, or they were.

That and many other things run in streaks for availability. I think it's a manufacturing issue where the demand is higher than the supply rather than people hoarding although I'm sure a bit of that is taking place too.

I am sure you're right. There's an understandable amount of hoarding at the moment, but people aren't willing to work at those big plants. I can't blame them either with close quarter contact.

@MarshaMusselman True. I imagine some adjustments have been made for that for sure.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I hadn't considered that impact but the factories may have adjusted the working environment to comply to CDC standards.

I always have to get the baby water because there's plenty of that. 92 cents versus 50 cents for the regular.

I would surely not drink distilled water. I use filtered water for my coffee machine, but distilled water destroys the minerals in your body.

I have considered getting a brita water pitcher instead just for drinking water. I use purified bottled water as drinking water now. I had no idea that it can destroy the minerals in our body (distilled)

@LadyDuck Yes. I believe Spring Water is the most healthy for all the minerals it contains and the lack of impurities due to the process of it falling down the stream.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Distilled water has no impurities, but also no more 99.9% of the minerals contained in normal water. For this reasons some claim that it gets out the minerals from your body. Here on the bottles it is written not to drink, I know that in your country people drink distilled water.

It's hurricane season, and in Florida that means all the stores are stocked with tons and tons of water, so I haven't seen any shortages of any particular kind, including distilled.

Ah, hadn't thought about that. Yeah, here in NC (at least my area) the past two months we've had shortages. Not just of the gallons but the bottles too, and mostly distilled.

@moffittjc I'm not sure, but I just saw a post about a person in Seattle being affected by it too. (saw it on reddit)

@ScribbledAdNauseum Wow, that's interesting. I wonder why there have been shortages there?

I didn't know things like that used it, but yes it is hard to find here too. Well the gallons are not usually difficult but big packs of the bottles are.If we are lucky they have 6 bottle packs. I heard (at least here) that it is not a a problem with being low on water....it's the lack of workers!

Oh yes, I bet it's the lack of workers across many different industries too. Nobody wants to work and that is understandable at this time.

@MommyOfEli2013 I feel the same way. Working just isn't for me. I know my limits and employers are not going to be willing to meet those.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yup that it is, and that is so depressing. I would work if I could...but I couldn't handle being in a work environment.

Lucky. It's been that way here for at least a month. Saw online that a person in Seattle, Washington was having the same issue.

No. Hubs just picked up a bottle for me to use in my hand steamer. Our little housekeeper is going to steam my husband's shirts. He left them clumped up in the basket; and they got all wrinkled.

Glad it doesn't seem to be effecting (affecting? I always get those backwards) you. Oh I haven't used a steamer in forever.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Affecting is correct. Haven't heard from our little housekeeper; so I don't know when she's coming.
