Do you buy online courses?

There's so many sites out there now where you can learn odds and ends. Of course while youtube is the most obvious (free) option, it is limited. Do you buy courses from places like skillshare and coursera? Have you considered it? How do you know the course works before you try it? Would you be upset if you didn't get your money back? The closest example I have is when I signed up for Stratford Career Institute. I never even finished the course and they stopped billing me. Pretty sure while the course may have been legit, the certificate would not have been. What do you have to say about this?

I haven't had a desire to get back into "schoolin'" since I retired.

I understand that. I like to just look up things and do my own research instead of being taught it.

@LindaOHio I agree. Unless your degree could be used in a side income capacity, it would not have been worth it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum For a while I wanted to finish my degree; but I thought...Why spend the money and stress myself out if I'm no longer working??? Made no sense except for personal satisfaction.

@allen0187 But they also must be careful. Sometimes the certification isn't valid.

Oh there are plentiful free courses and written instructions online. I think some buy the courses in hopes of getting certified.

I'm not a person who wants to "learn" past what I've learned in high school. If you know the right keywords, you can generally find any topic (as you said ) for free on youtube. That's what I do if I need a quick totoral for something.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah. I couldn't do it again. I don't do well under presure. And, My husband has a degree, and it's worthless and my best friend had to quit teaching because of the streign on her mental health. And, it's far and few in-between anymore who can put their degrees to use.

I have done a few courses from Coursera but for free. The course was free and one had to pay only if interested in writing the exams for certificates.

I have thought of doing it but there are so many ways to learn online without courses that I will stick to them

You're right. I keep thinking that I don't want to waste money if I will not practically use the course to make money.
