My son's last first day of elementary school

My son had his last first day of elementary school yesterday. It was very bittersweet. Just knowing this is his last year of elementary sort of hit me differently. Every year I'm a little sad knowing he is getting bigger so quickly but this really hit differently. It was hard trying to hold back tears as I watched him walk into the building knowing this would be the last time we would share a first day dropping him off at this particular school. My husband took the day off of work to be there to drop him off. We then spent the day downtown. It was super hot and we were exhausted but we were excited to pick him up from school. I love hearing about his day in school. He's grown up so much over the years and every year he just sounds so much older. He was bummed he didn't have many friends in his class but he still had a couple. He always manages to make friends wherever he goes so I know he'll be fine. This school year is a little better than last as far as not being restricted as much goes. They still need to wear face masks but they are able to play with their friends and things are mostly normal outside of that and not allowing as many adults into the building. If you need to be there you need to get authorization prior. You can no longer just stop in for lunch or last minute. Picture is of my son getting ready to walk into school. His lunch bag was dragging we had to tell him to pick it up and the two bags in his hand are for his teachers from last year since we weren't able to give it to them then.

He has grown indeed and soon that son of yours will be a taller and more handsome little boy. Time does fly so fast that you barely noticed it has been a year. I am happy that you are already able to attend school at least. My son is still in an online school and I think that is not normal for us that he attends school online.

@sissy15 Oh that is why we're all online schools up to this day because our covid case is still very high in our place. Although our Department of Education is already trying to think of opening face-to-face classes in selected areas where covid is not that present. But for the rest of the country, everyone is still on modular or online schooling still.

Very true, my son is already not far from being my height. The years have really flown by. We are happy he can go back but the risk is still there especially since my son isn't in the age group able to get the vaccine. There has already been a positive case at his school. I got a letter from his principal Friday that he sent out to the whole school. I didn't get a phone call though so it seems he wasn't in close contact this time. I'm hoping we can get through the whole year without needing to be in quarantine. I can't homeschool because I just don't have that kind of patience. When he did it last year the whole school was doing it and they did regular classes only on the computer. The teachers still taught everything. My son missed school and was anxious to go back. He was out of school for almost a year they went back in March two days a week and then in April they were back to five days for the remainder of the school year and then had the summer off. I'm curious if they'll get through the whole school year with the Delta variant and with so many kids not able to be vaccinated yet.

Yes, the time flies so fast. Your son is too cute. I remember my kids too grew so fast and now they are in 8th grade. They are twin kids. It looks as if they were born a few days back only.

They do and I do my best to spend as much time with him as I can but he is now at the age where he likes being by himself more.
