Day 84
2 Samuel 24:10 And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
11 For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
12 Go and say unto David, “Thus says the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.”
13 So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, “Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? Or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? Or that there be three days’ pestilence in thy land? Now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.”
14 And David said unto Gad, “I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.”
15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, “It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the Angel of the LORD was by the threshing place of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 And David spoke unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, “Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? Let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.”
Life is full of regrets. We do things without a thought about the consequences of our actions. Only when we’ve done what we planned and it didn’t come out as expected, but backfired in our faces, do we regret our actions.
David numbered Israel. When he did, he realized his foolishness. Gad offered him three choices from God for David’s sin. David chose to fall into God’s hands instead of the hands of men.
When David saw the angel of God, he confessed his sin and asked God to bring His consequences against him and no one else.
As Christians, you think you do the right thing in your walk with God. However, not everything you do is God’s will for you. When you go ahead of God with your plans, you face the consequences of your actions. When you see your sin, then you ask God to forgive you. God will forgive you. Yet, you will face the consequences of your actions. However, they won’t be as harsh as they could be if you didn’t recognize your sin.
God will not destroy you any more than He could destroy the people of Jerusalem. He stayed the arm of destruction. He will forgive you as He promised.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV)
David regretted his action and asked God’s forgiveness, and God forgave him. When your heart is right before God, He will forgive you too.
Let’s pray: Father, You alone know my heart. I know I am not perfect in everything I say and do. Help me seek Your will for my life and forgive me when I go ahead of Your plans for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
