I Timothy 5:7 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. The commandment to which this verse is referring is the law, God’s law found in the first five books of the Bible. The false teachers in Ephesus during Timothy’s day loved to reference the law. The problem was, they did not reference it in a loving, Scriptural way. Instead of being a guide to show men we don’t measure up and are in need of a Savior, they used it to elevate themselves and to (in a way) manipulate the congregation. They were legalist who insisted that people follow the letter of the law and they were harsh in their judgments. They insisted their flock demonstrate a holy outward appearance while never stressing the need for an internal transformation through salvation. When leaders become legalist, it is easy to began teaching one’s own interpretation of Scripture, and that leads to compromise of integrity and beliefs. Another problem with allowing the false teachers to infiltrate the church is, although they may be humorous or even academically sound, they are not Scripturally sound. They don’t produce love, faith, nor good conscience. We as believers have to be aware of false prophets so they don’t lead us astray. We as ministers, have to be aware of these false ministers or we will begin to align ourselves with their evil thought processes. The church is under attack. Too many are led by clowns or cowards, instead of bold servants of God. Strong churches are made of strong families. The family unit, the one designed by God, is on the brink of destruction. People of God, we have got to pray like never before. We have to get our homes right with God, no matter what we may have to give up or no matter who may walk away from us, then we have got to run the cowards and clowns out of pulpits and stand immovable for Jesus.
