Cute calico cats

A quiet moment

The youngest of my 4 cats is a calico cat. I call her Pippa. We didn't find her or choose her, she chose us. She arrived late at night on our land and paid the price for her invasion by being chased up an olive tree by two of the dogs. Woken by the noise my husband got up and rescued her, placing her close to a fence so she could go back to where she came from. She didn't. The following morning I found her looking very small, vulnerable and hungry and, of course, I fed her. She has been with us ever since. She must have been a village stray. I know that there are a number of cat lovers on MyLot and I am wondering if any of you have any knowledge of calico cats. Pippa is lively, or else she just likes to start a fight. Whichever case it is the other three cats do not like her. Lucy tolerates her but the other two chase her away. She is a great tree climber, small and light and she moves at speed. Uncatchable fortunately. She doesn't purr much although she likes to be picked up and stroked for a little while. After that she wriggles free. She doesn't meow much either. She makes a sound like perrupp when she approaches. She eats little and often. I am wondering if she is just an odd little cat or is she typical of other calicos?

Not all cats meow and not all cats purr, I do not know the reason, but I am experiencing with the different cats o f my neighbors. The calico cat they had was always silent, he loved to be petted but did not purr. The orange cat they have now is very vocal and purrs all the time.

I have concluded that they have different personalities. Lucy purrs at a touch and continues indefinitely. Stroking her is liking playing a musical instrument! Mini only purrs briefly, mostly when I scratch her head. Toby is slow to purr, as though he needs convincing that he is loved. Pippa purrs quietly and curls her toes. But she is soon looking for a way of escape.

@LadyDuck I learn so much on MyLot. today I found out what a tuxedo cat is and realise I grew up with one. this definitely calls for a new discussion and a photo of the tuxedo cat sitting on my back. I was only a child and I don't recall his personality except that he liked to play.

@41CombedaleRoad They are like humans, they all have a distinctive personality. The ginger cat of my neighbors love to rub my legs and he wants to rub his nose against my cheek. The tuxedo cat I adopted purrs a lot, he does not meow and he never rub himself against my legs, he want to be brushed all the time.

I don't know much about Calicos in general but we had two of them many years ago. Skeeter and Scooter. Scooter lived a few years, but Skeeter lived to be about 22 years. She got most of her tail cut off when she was somewhere under my husband's truck when he started it. She ran to the woods and we couldn't find her, but a couple of days later she came home. She was a sweetheart. Towards the end, she would sleep high up in the shop because she was deaf and almost blind. Your calico is unique, isn't she?

So was yours by the sound of it. She must have loved you a lot to come home after she lost her tail.

@41CombedaleRoad She was a sweetie. I love our cat Gracie, but she doesn't like to be petted. She wants to be near us, though, whenever we're outside.

@1creekgirl It seems they come to welcome us to their world when we go outside.

I'm sorry. I wish I could help you with your kitty, but we haven't owned cats for 30 years, at least... Pretty would often pick up strays around the neighborhood but I wouldn't let her bring them home. I'm allergic to pet dander... She always told me "But we could keep it outside." but I know my child, the cat wouldn't stay outside and I'd be sick all the time and would end up being the one who took care of it... *sigh*

That was a pity for you to miss enjoying a furry pet in your childhood. Your mother was right though, three of my cats are happiest outside but that doesn't stop them coming in when they feel like a change of view or a soft chair.....

@DaddyEvil Your daughter obviously doesn't need a pet. She prefers to have you for a pet, no competition.

@41CombedaleRoad We had cats and dogs when I was a kid... I grew up in a family with 16 kids. Just because one of us was allergic, that didn't stop the rest of them from having pets. Now that I'm the adult, I choose whether I'm willing to be sick just so my kid can have a pet. I'm not, so she can't have one Pretty is my 33 year old daughter. If she ever moves into her own house, she can have all the pets she wants.

Calico cats are so pretty. I haven't known many so I can't offer any advice on their temperament .
