Read 28 books this year so far...

My goal for the year is 55 books. Not sure I will get there. Unless I manage to get many poetry books to borrow from the library. Those are usually short, so are a rather quick read. I am gonna go to the library today to return the books I borrowed. Hopefully, there will poetry books to check out that I've not read yet. I placed a book on hold (a novel) weeks ago and still haven't received it. My place in line is 1 of 1 holds. I wonder why it's taking so long, if I am the only one that requested the book.

Wow congrats!!! I have always been a voracious reader--up until pandemic. I am reading again--but for a while my anxiety level was so high that I just couldn't--

It's possible the library had to order the book you requested from another library in their network. When I still borrowed books from the library I, sometimes, ended up getting the book from the New York public library or the public library in San Francisco... When that happened, it could take months for the book to arrive. If they didn't order the book from another library, I'd check and make sure your library actually owns the book and is not just hoping you'll give up and buy the book and donate it to the library after you've read it.

It's weird. Usually when I search for a book on the NYPL website and go into it it tells me what branches it's available at. If a book is missing it will say "missing." If a book is in-transit, it will say that. Etc. For this one it just says "1 hold on first copy returned of 1 copy." I think next time I am at the library I will have to ask them to look into this.

@lovebuglena Yes, that does seem strange... I can't remember... did I offer you the link for the free ebook site I use? (My Kindle app says I've finished reading 87 books this year.)

@DaddyEvil I don't think so. I don't read e-books though. But I may check it out anyway.

That is a good goal. When I was a kid, I was a voracious reader. These days, I get distracted with too many other things-- including, and especially, the internet. Two fairly quick reads, though, are the "Cat Who..." books by the late Lilian Jackson Braun and "The Cadfael Chronicles," which the late Edith Mary Pargeter wrote under the pseudonym Ellis Peters.

That was my goal for last year but because of the pandemic and the libraries closing I wasn't able to reach it.

They would send me an email but I have a feeling maybe the book doesn’t actually exist in the library thought it is listed. With no holds but mine shouldn’t take that long. As far as I can tell the book is not checked out.

It sounds to me that you will be able to r4each your goal. I used to try to read one book a month.

I am not sure if I will get there. I am about halfway there and there are only 3.5 months left.

Maybe the person renewed the book. I have two good books to read; but I can't seem to sit down and commit to a book.

When I go to my account on the NYPL website and go into that book I placed on hold it says "1 hold on first copy returned of 1 copy." I am assuming it means the book has been returned. What I don't get is why it doesn't say what branch it is available at. Usually they tell you that info when you go into the book's page.
