How old is old to you?

I suppose it is all in the mind providing the body is working well enough not to interfere with us living the kind of life we enjoy. Personally I went from young, to adult, skipped middle age altogether, picked up a pension, got older and left it at that. My body works well enough not to complain but I did eventually replace a couple of hips that were not satisfactory and their replacements gave me a new burst of youth that was well worth the time taken waiting for them to settle down. My grandmother became elderly and could hardly walk. I can only remember her as an elderly lady.

I don't think I've reached "old" yet... But I'm only 116 now, too... Some day I'm sure I'll get there... as long as @vandana7 doesn't kill me first. (Have you met vanny? She's a terrible woman!) I was somewhere around eight or ten years old the last time I saw my maternal grandmother. She was a tiny lady who only came up to my shoulder. My maternal grandfather was, to my eyes at the time, a hugely tall elderly man... They both lived to be over 100 years old.

Old is 20 years older than I am. My body won’t necessarily agree, but my mind is running the show.

@41CombedaleRoad — she passed away 19 years ago. I just refuse to get old (or more specifically, to grow up. ).

@FourWalls There is much to enjoy about being childlike, as long as no-one calls you childish. I was told once that I would never grow up. It was a man's response to me throwing a snowball at him. Perhaps he thought that was childish, at least it was not meant as a compliment....

I am 62. I feel rather old. It is tough to be young. I am quite happy with my age. I do get help because people consider my age. So no complaints so far. I could do with help in digestion though.

@sjvg1976 I am terrified of my farts. Usually they are only sound producing processes. But when they are accompanied by stink...it is mortifying. The sound I do try to control. But stink does not dissipate easily.

@vandana7 you need not to be but the person sitting with you should be terrified of it.

For me old is a person who refuses or lost the ability to learn new things and are not open to new ideas and technology. In my personal observation learners usually have a body younger than their age ( just a personal view)

I have someone I love very much, born the same year as I was who announced 'we are now middle aged' when he had not yet reached 40! He had an old fashioned idea of things. I hope he has moved on since he made that announcement.

For me, the old is when the mind stops working and doesn't accept the changes easily.

We have to keep our minds working as much as we can. I have started doing crossword puzzles. It somehow revises on words that we don't use very often and are prone to forget. It's a little addictive though.

I remember both my grandmothers being younger than I am now and thinking they were ancient. I don't consider myself old but some days my body says otherwise

For me, you are old when your body starts to get weak but as long as you still enjoy the walking and moving around in a normal way. Then you are still young

Normal life then keeps us young and we are only really old when we cannot enjoy the walking etc. that we normally enjoy doing. Perhaps the secret of postponing getting old is to be independant for as long as possible.

Stay safe, strong and fit. Well as we grow older we feel differently physically, but that's part of life, let us maximize the time and our remaining youth in us. Smile always, ask god to fill our hearts with joy, see good things on little things that surrounds us... there is so much to life, until we still breathing and able to walk - regardless on how fast we can still move, the important thing is we can still do things and change things for the better. God bless.

If you are old, I am older than you...what must I be? LOL Being constantly focused on age can make us feel old. God almighty did not make that calendar. Everybody does not become responsible by calendar age 18. Nor everybody gets leg pains by 60. And even then, there is possibility of reverse it...if there is will to be young.

@just4him Aw...sorry..glad you had a good doctor do it. Here, the issue is, I am not sure whether they are going to do a good job. It is then, fifty fifty chance that it will be successful. LOL

How old is old to me? At the moment I feel old. Falling over today has aged me , it really has. My body works OK. All still original, even teeth. If I get frail and need a lot of care I might think I am old then

@41CombedaleRoad Shakespeare did not know of stem cells. Wonder what he would have thought them to be. The best I can think of...may be the stem of a tree with fat trunk cut open to make room for prison inmate. Australia sure has some interesting trees for such facility.

That's when we reach full circle and become the object that Shakespeare described - without eyes, without teeth, without everything.
