Is it time for me to hook up with a new car insurance company?

As you know, my Nissan Xterra is cooked. Today I called at 10 AM to have someone tow it to a local fix-it place. When nobody arrived by 1 PM, I called and requested that someone else come and tow my truck to the designated fix-it place. At 3:40 PM, when nobody had showed up, I called again. That's where I am now. My consulting rate for services is between $100 and $200 per hour, depending on need. Its called a "sliding scale." I am compassionate toward my clients. Do you think I should bill my insurance company only $100/hour for the time I've been sitting here waiting? Or $200/hour? I am a good driver and have paid them more than $20,000 (that's not a typo) over the years just to be street legal. My spirit is dying. I want to believe there is a small thread of truth and love and honesty and integrity left in the world. But I just don't know.

I think it would make an interesting court case, if you sent them a bill, they didn't pay it, and you took them to court over it.

@TheHorse How much remaining time do you have?

Something I will consider. But is it worth my (remaining) time?

Can't say I blame you. Could you get away with billing them anything?

At this point I am in survival mode. I don't know what's left for honest citizens to do.

@TheHorse I understand. So far I haven't had to use our insurance for either the house or van, but by law we have to have it.

Definitely charge the $200/hr... they'd do the same.

@TheHorse I guess so... The last time we used AAA it took them two hours to get someone to us. The only time it has taken them longer than that was back when all the tornadoes went through at once in 2011. We waited eight hours before a tow truck showed up to help us then.

Start with 200 and that gives you room to try to get them to pay 100

That must be incredibly annoying. What do you have to do to get someone to turn up? (That's a rhetorical question).

I have no rhetorical answer. My head is bowed in submission.

There is a thread of love and honesty and integrity left in the world. Maybe two. Or even three. But you won't find it or them while talking to an insurance company. Or even in waiting for what they are obligated to do. Bill them $200.

I'd charge the higher price for what you've been through. Time to get a new insurance company. Nobody needs to be treated like that.

Don't you wish that you could bill everyone who's made you wait over the years?...including doctors?

due to the rate of car theft in our area right now, our company just blew up our rate. (22% increase). i am shopping around so, I would say charge them 200 plus the overtime fee starting after 15 minutes!
