Why Did We Accept This Rule At High School??

There were lots of things that I really liked about those times, but there was one thing that I really should have objected to and never thought to. It was the fact that the girls had to wear a skirt or a dress YEAR ROUND. That was it! I still remember standing out on the side of the road, in the winter, waiting for the bus. It would have been somewhere around 8 o'clock or so, in the morning and it would be freezing. Boys obviously didn't have any such rules but I don't remember even once complaining about the weather. Some girls even would have had to walk to school. It never even crossed my mind to complain and I think that we would have had a pretty good case... Do you still remember those bitterly cold days?? I still can't believe that we didn't complain!!

I remember those bitter cold mornings, and running out to the end of our laneway when the bus was approaching, but we didn't have to wear skirts or dresses to school. I actually wore pants and often I wore ski pants over my pants, as short ski jackets were all the rage back then.

I honestly don't know why we didn't wear pants and then stuff them in the locker when we got to school. !!!

@Hate2Iron I remember wearing long pants under my dresses, but it seemed like that was a style at the time.

I've always lived in FLorida, and by the time I started school, girls could wear shorts or pants. Shorts or skirts had to be finger tip length and skirts required a pair of shorts or something underneith (which I didn't understand). But, I rarely complained about it, because I wore shorts most of the year and pants during the rare cold winter days.

@Hate2Iron For the most part. Especially when I did, and it'd become socially acceptiable for girls to wear pants or shorts. Of course dress codes, I hated those. Especially my senior year, when I spent it in a wheelchair.

We must wear school uniforms from elementary to high school. Some universities even require that. That’s why i went to a university that didn’t equine a uniform. University women were required to wear pencil skirt and i just couldn’t wear that at all.

When I got to university, we luckily got to wear whatever we wanted. Finally I was warm year round!

We had to when I first started school. But we were allowed slacks under them in the winter. Anymore I am almost never in a dress or skirt.

@Hate2Iron Thankfully by the time I got out of elementary jeans were the normal for everyone.

Yes! I walked to school K-9th grade; and I froze my behind off! I wish we could have worn jeans in those days.

I know my daughters didn't have to suffer the temps and for that I'm grateful. Jeans for us would have made so much more sense!

In winter, the girls had to wear pants instead of skirts/dresses. We had summer and winter uniforms

We were never allowed to wear slacks or pants either. Also a school uniform which consisted of blouse, skirt and tie.
