Got some much needed weeding done

It's gorgeous outside being about 79 degrees F. My kind of weather. Before I weeded I brought up from the basement cupboards that were removed years ago to make way for our first dishwasher. Those went into a large garbage bin along with the rest of the old kitchen that was removed last week. After taking a short break I got out my new pruners and began getting rid of the many weeds in my flower garden. This was the first time I've spent out there this year because of the wound I've had since last year that's almost healed. Several years ago one of my employees put down some weed barrier and covered it with some free mulch I got from church. Had I continued to cover the old mulch with the mulch the weeds would have been minimal but since I would have had to do it I never did. Even with the weed barrier my spring flowers have come up each year. I'd like to put more barrier down because more weeds came through this year but I'm not sure if that would stop my flowers from coming up or not. Maybe another layer of mulch would suffice. Does anyone here know the answer to that? I still have bulbs to plant. Now that I got some weeding done maybe sometime this month I can work on the bulbs I bought this summer. The left pic shows the area with the barrier and mulch that I just weeded, the right shows that more weeding is needed with my extra mulch in the middle of the weeds.

Weeds are very hard to keep away. Some use newspaper, good luck.

I never heard of using newspaper before. It doesn't seem like that would be the best barrier but what do I know?

@CarolDM hmm . Interesting. I don't get any papers so but maybe they are cheaper to buy than the barrier would be and maybe easier to work with.

@MarshaMusselman My neighbor used that under her mulch and she called it her weed paper!

I don't really know, but weeding is a part of life. My husband does it at least twice a month during the summer.

I've done it more often most years I just didn't want to hurt my foot crossing the mulch pile. I'd like to try to get more down before it gets to cold this winter.

So far we've had a fairly warm month other than the nights. Yesterday and today was in the low seventies F, Monday was 80F.

You're correct. Time is needed though and I don't have a lot of that all the time so the weeds take a back seat.
