What would you do (or say) to a scowling or frowning cashier?

When I was young, there was this sarisari store owner who would always scowl and frown at her customers. Come to think of it, she never really smiled at me. If there was another store, I would never have bought stuff at the grumpy woman’s store. Now I have a small sarisari store and I always see to it to be nice to my customers. Sometimes my daughter has to mind the store and she would always have a scowl on her face (especially when she’s interrupted with her smartphone stuff.) It reminds me of the old woman.

A smile costs nothing and it can make a lot of difference. I always smiled receiving the clients of my husband. They used to ask me how an angel like me had married a monster like my husband. He is not the kind of man who often smiles.

@sol_cee I do not believe to be an angel, even if my friends still think that I am. I am surely an angel for the abandoned kitty that I have adopted.

One time a sales lady in a store never spoke to me or looked at me while we were checking out. Before I left, I said, "I sure hope you feel better soon." She asked what I was talking about and I said, "Since you haven't said a word to me, I feel sure you must be awfully sick." She did have the decency to apologize. I'm glad you make a point to be friendly to your customers.

I wouldn’t return to a store if the owner made me feel uncomfortable. Hopefully, you can let your daughter read this discussion.

Usually, I don't go back to that store if the seller is not friendly. But there was this store in our hometown and before the pandemic, that's the store where I used to buy ice cream. I had no other choice since that's the nearest that I pass by when going home. The seller used to frown at buyers and as if she didn't want buyers to select from the ice creams in the locked chest freezer. But I still insist that I will have to look since I want certain flavors. I don't know what happened to that seller but a few months before the pandemic, I didn't see that lady anymore. And now their store is closed.

haha I can imagine you smiling sweetly (and sarcastically) to the seller that it will indeed take you longer to choose your ice cream.

@sol_cee Yup I used to do that.. HIhihi And the seller who replaced her also had some attitude. When I asked her if I can take a look at the flavors, she said, the flavors are all the same like those on top... Grrrr... But it's as if I didn't hear her.. I still looked up to the bottom of the freezer and I found my ube macapuno hihihihi

That's good that you choose to be nice to your customers by not frowning. I've encountered some like that too, and it's hard to ask a customer's question without seeing their scowl.

I avoid going to stores where the shop owner is not friendly as I feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable. But sometimes you have no choice

Yeah and we never know but that customer might tell others (friends/relatives) not to buy from that unfriendly seller’s store. Lost sales

I won't be saying or doing anything. Try not interact with that person as well. I don't know that person is angry about.

@sol_cee Yes, as for me, if I start arguing, they call security guard even if I am in the right. Dangerous here to argue. Not allowed you see.

@sol_cee Well you said there wasn't another store. I would catch a bus to another town. I really would. I'm not having no grumpy old git spoil my day when I am spending money which pays her wages

I remembered last week when I went to mall with my parents, we came across this grumpy cashier. Maybe she is just having a bad day or something, but still, being grumpy and throw a tantrum at customers are just not professional.

@sol_cee Literally being a customer? I don't even know what we were doing. That's usual here when people put their items on the counter and return to find others. In this regard, it was clothes. Not many people are looking for clothes either.
