Some people shouldn't have pets at all

I wanted to do a good deed and I gave a stray cat to a man on Sunday. Today it's Wednesday and that man doesn't have the cat anymore. He can't even catch the cat. The cat ran away. Why would someone take a cat if he isn't able to take care of it?
He blocked my mom's number. We had to call using a different number. Now the cat is lost on the street. He doesn't even bother to feed the cat. My mom asked for his address because we want to take back the cat. He hang up the phone in her face. Are we crazy because we want to take that cat back?
He said that there are lots of cats everywhere and we shouldn't care so much. Maybe we are crazy, right? Would you take the lost cat back or would you leave the cat there? My brother also said that we shouldn't care so much. We did what was right and that's all.

He is a liar. My mom searched for the cat in that area and the cat is gone. I am so sad because we raised this kitten since he was very small. He lied. No one saw that cat in that area. Who knows if that kitten is still alive? If he lost the cat there we should have found him. But no one saw him. My mom asked neighbors. He gave fake addresses.

Cats and dogs are very good companions to have as pets. If I cannot to have one, I won't have one.

I'm not sure how to respond. While the guy does sound like he doesn't care, losing the cat might not be entirely his fault. Some cats like to door-dart. We actually lock ours up in one of the bedrooms when we're going shopping, because we can't always know where they are. Cats can be very quiet, and dart out when you least expect it.
Although my husband loves our cats, and has helped me look for them when they have darted out, he'll sometimes say 'if they don't want to be here, fine they can leave.' I don't know this man and if he means what he's saying, but it's possible the cat got out, without him being aware and he's tried (and failed) to catch the cat. One of a few things could happen. The cat will find it's way back to you or him, or it could be taken in by someone else. Just know that blame should not be spread. Not without all the facts.

I am not sure what to think. Maybe the cat isn't alive now. He seems a liar. I searched the cat for hours and no one saw that cat. This can't be a good sign. The cat is not where that man said. He blocked us. If he isn't guilty why would he block us? And he gave fake addresses. He doesn't love animals at all. There are other black cats in that area and they are wild. This one was tamed. And he said that he can't catch the cat. Everyone could catch that cat. My brother is a stranger and he could catch the cat. I think that everything he said was a lie. I fear the worst.
