Shortages (our new way of life)

United States

Happy Wednesday Everyone! what a beautiful day it is The lawn guys are here this morning making their usual racket. I really thought that maybe last week was the last for the season but nope. I shouldn't complain because I don't have to mow and second that the grass really did grow. It would be nice if these big riding mowers that they use came with a silencer. Not much planned for today. Called my Aunt this morning to wish her a Happy Birthday. We had a nice conversation and I got points for being the first phone call . I even beat her kids and grandkids While we were chatting she mentioned that she is having a hard time finding cranberry sauce. The cashier at her supermarket told her it's very hard to get so that's another shortage I'm hearing about. With Thanksgiving next month the shortage on turkeys and now cranberry sauce is going to put a dent in the traditional dinner. Guess I'll be looking for cranberry sauce next grocery shopping before it's impossible to find. I'm making my grocery list and the prices on everything are skyrocketing. A simple bag of frozen vegetables that used to be 99 cents is now $1.99. Little by little I'm trying to stock up for the winter months but between not being able to find things and the increasing prices it's more difficult than ever. Are you finding shortages where you live?

Yes it seems everyone does these days and it will get worse. Even online there are things I cannot find. A lot of what we need is stuck on barges in the ocean. If they were not imported from other countries we might be able to find what we need. Happy Birthday to your Aunt!

I saw those stuck barges on the news yesterday. It's a shame that they're just sitting there as well as us being dependent on stuff from other countries.

I am not, but then again I do not buy much. I hope it gets better. That is a sad shame Marilyn.

I'm finding the every day stuff harder to get in one place. Lately we've had to go from store to store to get a whole weeks grocery shopping done.

For sure, there is always a shortage of something...... bread, milk, mostly meat, And a lot of other things as well. It is sad that it is happening!

Meat is definitely hard to find if you're looking for something specific. I'm finding deli cold cuts limited. Bread is also a hit or miss. There's bread on the shelves but not a wide variety like before the pandemic.

At the moment, I haven't really noticed. Doesn't mean there's no shortage.

It's good that you haven't noticed. That probably means the stuff you buy regularly hasn't been affected.

I've been seeing lots of shortages, and on everyday items at that. There were 2 weeks in a row that I couldn't get the 12 grain bread that I buy from the grocery store, their shelves were bare for that brand for that kind of bread. I think that with the turkey shortage you will see people reverting to other items to serve as the main course. Its good to switch things up once in a while or pay that darned over-inflated price if you want to go traditional.

I'm finding the same thing with bread. I like the Sara Lee 45 calorie honey wheat. Nearly impossible to find and when you do the price is ridiculous. White bread is easy to find though. Same thing with cereal. You might not find the brand you want so you either have to go without or choose something different. Same with frozen vegetables. As for the holidays we'll always manage to have a good meal on the table even if it is turkey free.

I buy tart cranberry juice and mix it with yogurt when I have my turkey "TV dinners."

That's an interesting combination of cranberry juice and yogurt. Actually I'm not a big cranberry sauce person so if it wasn't available it wouldn't bother me much. However other things I buy regularly I'm finding it harder to find

I'm just finding normal every day stuff a little hard to get. You might find it in one store but not another so that means going from store to store rather than doing it all in one place. I hope that you don't have any problems when you go out shopping.

I didn’t think I’d ever find heavy cream. I finally had to go a hour to Sam’s Club to get some. Thankfully I had other things to get at Sam’s.

We shop at Sam's often and it's even hard trying to find stuff there. I'm glad you found your heavy cream. Guess our new way of life is going from store to store rather than getting everything in one place

The grocery store I shop at has had empty spots through our the store since early summer. Some of those spots have since been filled while other places became bare. Prices are certainly going up, no big surprise there.

One of our supermarkets has some empty spaces while another just has limited choices on the shelves. So if you're looking for a certain brand of cereal you might not find it and have to either go without it or make a different choice. I agree that rising prices aren't surprising at all.

Just read that shortages are from lack of drivers and people buying so much extra stuff. Yes, we have to look around

I've also heard that some of the shortages are due to the lack of drivers and everyone from point A to point B. Hopefully life will get back to normal at some point.

Yes, pine nuts is out of stock at Walmart, bathtub safety bar... finally found one at Walgreens after 2 weeks of online window shopping, I haven't seen turkeys even at Safeway at all...can you imagine orange juice, sells out and in about 2 weeks replenished! Not fond of oranges, so like & need juice. Walmart never sells out... now oj sells out before week ends.

Absolutely yes. I go from store to store and all I see are the Sorry for the Inconvenience signs in place of what I'm looking for. All has to do with lack of production and distribution since pandemic and it really seems like it's only getting worse day by day.

I agree that it's getting worse and worse and I'm assuming that as the holidays get closer it will even be harder. The pandemic really put a hurt on us in more ways than just the deadly virus.

Not too often, but I do see them from time to time. I hope you get what you need. Target has many frozen veggies for .99 or less.

Happy birthday to your aunt. All the best to her. There’s no shortage here but everything is skyrocketing in price here especially the petroleum.

there is a supply chain issue right now, so things are going to be odd this holiday season.
