Well, it seems witches were not all bad. Of course, they got the bad end of the stick. It seems witches were given a death sentence or more to cleanse the society than anything else. Witchcraft is an umbrella term and not all practice black magic but are white practitioners. There are a lot of misconceptions due to movies like The Wizard of Oz and Harry Potter. But, as in most things, there are two sides to every story. What is your take on this? I think a lot of stuff can be blamed on the media and movies.

I think that witches have always been people more intelligent than the rest. So other people were afraid of them, probably because idiots with power did not want them to rule and spread bad notions

Intelligent women were always to be feared and if only they were taken seriously the earth would be a better place today.

Witches are people who are more in tune with nature and the energies around us.

I agree with @marguicha, many of them were more intelligent than average.
In Europe, in the dark ages, it was a way to get rid of a woman, so many have been killed as witches, when they did nothing wrong.

The wrong they did was to be intelligent. In Spain, a couple of very intelligent women were locked in convents with the hope of keeping them away from the sin of thinking. Teresa de Avila was one of them. And another one Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

@celticeagle I fear that this still happens, a way to get rid of them.

A lot of things have been inspired or blown out of portion by the movies such as witches and vampires and so on, I still enjoy watching Hocus Pocus about those three witches every Halloween

Lordy. Samhain is just around the corner. Witches were the original wise women; the ladies who did their best to cure others with herbs and such. I guess folks just need to be scared of something or somebody so they found wise women and started being mean. (I have a black cat on my bare foot right now. I guess Sonny James gets cold?)

Women that didn't bend to societies norms and cured in ways others weren't used to. They were wise and didn't go with the flow.

Good witches and bad witches, just as there are good people and bad people.
