Day 136 Nehemiah 6:10 Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.” 11 And I said, “Should such a man as I flee? And who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.” 12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. 13 Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me. 14 My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear. Have you been a victim of subterfuge? Do people think they can pull one over on you and you not notice what they are doing? Shemaiah wanted to lure Nehemiah into the temple to kill him. However, Nehemiah understood his intentions and refused to do as he asked and prayed for God to take care of those who meant him harm. As Christians, Satan tries to trap you into doing or going to places that seem harmless. Shemaiah wanted Nehemiah to go to the temple, a seemingly harmless suggestion. However, Nehemiah spent time with God and understood his intentions. When you spend time with God in prayer and Bible study, you will understand the intentions of those who seem to have your best interests in mind. You will see through Satan’s plans. Your prayers will keep you safe. No one can harm you when you spend time with God. He will tell you Satan’s plans and keep you safe. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for keeping me safe when Satan wants to destroy my relationship with You. Help me to remain close to You by spending time with You in prayer and Bible study.
