We could not believe it .

The parents insisted the little boy was not sick, just too much Halloween candy. The nurse let them bring him to school. What about the rest of the kids, who might catch it? Believe me, it was not candy he was vomiting up. I worked with him in a separate room today. I wore my mask and cancelled swimming. I have been told that if he even has reflux in the pool it would have to be drained and cleaned. He definitely was not 100%.

@marlina It is sad that his parents just think it was something he ate.

His parents probably view the school as their respite from providing care for him. It is unfortunate that they didn't do the right thing and keep their obviously sick child at home, but it isn't really surprising. Parents of perfectly able-bodied children often make the same decision just out of a desire to not have their own lives disrupted.

I can't believe the school let him come back without a doctor checking him over.

I think they are supposed to be symptom free for 48 hours to come back. Doctor would have said this as well.

@GardenGerty Yeah, when Pretty was in school, she couldn't go if she'd been sick within 48 hours before leaving for school.

No, he should have had a lazy day to recover, even if he was not puking at the time.

Those parents should keep him home and let a doctor see him and see what is up before he infects others,

Yes, even if he was "perfectly fine" after throwing up, there are others who could still catch it.

I'll never understand this sudden push for education. I'm glad you didn't swim, but wow. He should've stayed home to recover.

He must be the lazy type. His child should have been his main concern not getting someone else to take over HIS responsibility

No, he had covid a couple of months ago, but he still needed time to rest and recover and others needed to not be exposed.

@GardenGerty The fact he already had Covid does not mean that he could not have Covid again now. I would test him for the safety of the other kids.

If he was vomiting he should not have been allowed anywhere near the school & not allowed back in for 48 hours after the final time he vomited. Did the nurse get her license from a cornflake packet????

She says she cannot argue with parents very well. It was at least three phone calls and a visit or two from the dad before she just finally said yes. I know he should have been kept home for two days.

@GardenGerty She should not be doing her job if she can not discuss things with parents. If it were norovirus it would be her fault allowing 80-90% of those coming into contact if he hurls up in school. Not a very clever thing to do. She should know that in basic infection control!

Yes. I wore a mask and kept him away from other kids except the lunch room. He sits at a separate table. There are other illnesses besides covid that kids can catch.

From anything people should have learned thru this pandemic is that we MUST stay home when we are not well. I'm sorry that you had to work so closely with that little student, and I hope that you remain healthy.
