Charlie's Bod Got Stolen

Can you believe it? Charlie Chaplin died in 1977 and you would think that was the end of it. Morning and memories, right? Not so. His coffin and body were stolen and his wife Oona was extorted for $600,000. His wife refused to pay the ransom. It took the police five weeks to arrest two auto mechanics. The body had been buried in a cornfield about a mile from the Chaplin family home. The family reburied the body in a cement grave.

That’s one of the reasons they moved Elvis’s body and buried him at Graceland: there was a plot to steal his body.
