Rainy, Studious Day in Oregon

Eugene, Oregon
November 15, 2021 6:24pm CST
Again we had wind, we had rain, we got not even a peek at the sun today. Now, at 4 PM, it looks like night is about to fall, but that won't actually happen for maybe 1.5 hours. But what's that studious part about, you wonder? No, I'm not trying to learn a new vocation in my old-er age. I have been going through my considerable number of poems for months now, getting them on to my computer, editing them and looking for places to send them for publication and/or a contest that includes a money prize and publication. I did win and place in some state poetry association contests and have been neglecting all that stuff for a few years now. So, I'm getting serious and have submitted maybe 18 or 20 poems to different literary journal contests. I hope I don't have to wait too long for results. It is expected that there will be rejections, but there are more journals to submit to out there.

I’ve done the same thing for years. Iwas getting a poetry book ready to print when my son passed away and I haven’t gotten back to it. I did have one poem printed this year in Creosote. I’ve had others published in other magazines. Good luck to you with Your poetry.

Good for you and thanks! That Blue Mountain Card Company is having a contest now, I think. Do you know about the Winning Writers website? Very interesting.

@JamesHxstatic I have looked at very few poetry sites during the last year but I do want to get back to my poetry. I’ve looked at the Blue Mountain site but not lately..My mind has been everywhere but on poetry this last year. Keep me up to date on your poetry.Could you share one of yours on Mylot or do you want to keep your work private.If so I understand.

@RubyHawk I can't say it is un-published if I publish it online.

@JamesHxstatic - That is wonderful James! I hope you are successful selling some of your poems. I used to try to encourage some of the writers to create paperback books of their poetry on Amazon. Then, their family members, at least, could have a print-on-demand copy of their poetry, and they might even succeed in selling a few copies. Please, please send some of that rain down to Southern California!

Thank you! I am reluctant to self-publish at this time, but I might later. My family is so small (wife and daughter) it is not a big concern. It is raining again today and our first frost will come tonight.

@JamesHxstatic - I hope the rain eventually moves south. You guys need less of it, and we need more!

Have you tried to create an Amazon Kindle edition of your poetry, I think they also provide printed versions. I am not totally sure as I never did, but I think you could ask them.

It surely would. The fact that I did win some earlier contests with the state organization tells me that I should have a chance.

I hope you hear soon and good results. It was very windy here with lots of rain. I had to drive for an appointment in Stayton then in the worse of it, to Salem for another. Our creek is now rushing again and that darn frog is outside my window again.

Thanks, @noni1959, we did not get too much wind here, but lots of continuing rain. We expect frost tonight.

@JamesHxstatic I left Oregon Wednesday with my son on a road trip to CA. I forgot how much different the air is. Dry vs humid and warmer. I don't miss living down here.

Wow that's great. Turns out you're a poet. Hopefully later all the poems that you write and that you have submitted to the poetry contest will win.
