Autumn colour

When you mention ‘autumn colour’ people naturally think of red- and gold-tinted leaves - and yes I love those too, and incidentally they are particularly good here this year because the weather has been quite dry. But another colourful feature of autumn that I enjoy is the native spindle bush, Euonymus europaeus. I never saw these growing up, as they don’t seem to be common in that area, so I was quite surprised the first time I saw one at the edge of woodland and could hardly believe it was natural! Where we live now they are much more common in wooded areas as well as in gardens and I love their surprising fruit colour as well as their red-tinted leaves. @fleura Never seen that before. Nice to see a vibrant shock of pink among all the autumnalness (yes, it’s a word since I have just used it. I suppose autumnality might have sufficed)

I told someone the other day that there was still some green about. I had a look today and there wasn't as much as I thought. I quite like the earth colours of autumn

They look pink to me and are quite pretty.. I have always been told the opposite that abundant rain brings out the colors, and I believe that a bit more because if it is too dry the leaves just turn brown and fall off.

They are pink fruits with orange seeds inside. Here we often get wet and windy weather in autumn, so the leaves hardly have a chance to change colour before they are all blown off and mushed into mud. Cold dry weather seems to bring out the colours and allow them time to be enjoyed by us!

They are actually seed pods. The flowers are fairly inconspicuous green and white things.

We have many colors here too. But they are fading fast. This is a pretty color.

It is very beautiful and vibrant. No, that pink isn't the first thing that springs to mind when one hears "autumn colors."

It does, doesn't it? It looks quite exotic, I was surprised it is a native plant.

That's really pretty. I've never seen anything like that before. Everything here finally turned brown and dropped their leaves. I didn't get to see any fall colors this year.

@Fleura We kept getting rain but the leaves stayed green up until a few days ago. Then they turned brown and fell off the trees.

It's quite colourful here, mainly because we have had little rain so far. Otherwise all the leaves just get beaten down and turned to brown mush.

These look positively exotic, don't they? I was really surprised they are a native plant, but traditionally they were used to make spindles (hence the name)
