I will have pesto from my own basil.

I bought basil seedlings a couple of weeks ago and many of them survived. I have planted them in bigger containers but not in the ground as I want them away from Luna. And I have been collecting very small containers of Brie cheese from France to which I have grown addicted. So when I make the pesto, I will have a way of saving it in small amounts. Some people make parsil pesto and other herbs pesto. But for me, with a fourth Italian blood, pesto and basil are twins.

Well, I believe true pesto is made with basil only. The other sauces are just... sauces. We have a grown plant but haven't made pesto in a while. It's good to have it fresh for other sauces anyway, adding extra flavor to tomato and so on.

In my house it has been a must have ever since the kids were small. In other cultures you have to have hotdogs to make children happy but in my family it is pasta with pesto.

I haven't made my own pesto. Although, I should, since my husband absolutely loves the stuff.

@marguicha Mortar and pestle? I think that I'd take the blender route, too. Considering the price of good pesto, I really do need to do my own.

@wilsongoddard My grandma did it with mortar and pestle. The blender is as good as the other method

My grandmother did it in a very difficult way. But I put together the washed and dried basil leaves with olive oil in the blender and there they go. I only add a bit of garlic but no salt if it will go to the freezer.

Do. The only care a basil plant needs is to cut off the buds before they flower and water the ground instead of the leaves.

Pesto is easy to make. They sell ready made pesto but I have never tried it.
