Picky Eater

Times have changed and people are picky eaters and even when they are dead hungry and broke they will still pick their favourite food. This is a thing which is started from childhood and if you brought up like that it means you'll be a spoiled brat lol so we better teach our kids to eat nutritious food and respect food because food is what we work for all life and earn money. Are you A picky Eater? Do you teach your kids to be not picky eaters and respect food and everything that you have on your table?

There are some things that aren't food that other people eat... I didn't force Pretty to eat anything she didn't want, as long as I didn't have to fix her something separate from what I was eating. If you can only afford to buy one thing to eat, why not buy what you like? If that isn't "nutritious", oh, well. It's your money so you can buy what you want.

@DaddyEvil that's fine but we need to see what they are eating so we don't regret at later stage

@Butterfingers I don't think so. It isn't our business what others eat.

I'm not necessary a picky eater when I'm buying food, I try to balance the junk foods I crave with the nutritious foods my body needs. But I do know what I like and mostly tend to stick to those things, although I love experimenting with new foods. When it comes to free food, I am not picky at all. I'll eat whatever is given to me, especially if I am super hungry.

I am not a picky eaters but there are things that my body knows are not good and I refuse to eat them. You can decide to eat very simple and inexpensive food, but avoid what you dislike.

@Butterfingers If your body dislikes it is very possible that it's not good for you.

I don't think being a picky eater means you are spoiled. It means there are some things you don't like and won't eat, no matter what. I'm not picky, but there are foods I refuse to eat. Why spend money on food you don't like. Makes no sense to me.

Isnt about respecting food... Some people are just picky eaters... Yknow people with Autism may have issues with being a picky eater because of the colour, taste and texture of foods. If an Autisic person refuses to eat something it is not because they are disrespectful... As a child I couldn't eat certain things and people would tell my parents I was just a fussy eater... I was not in fact the muscles in my oesophagus were underdeveloped I would choke and gag on so many foods. Nowdays place something in front of me and I will at least try it... There are other factors to fussy eating not just being "spoilt" Not to mention if you avoid certain foods because you don't like them you are a hypocrite in this instance.

I can see this is turning into a heated discussion. No real need. I believe everyone is a picky eater. There sometimes are underlying causes, that we may not know about. I also believe people can change. When working in a pre school that had dietary requirements, we were REQUIRED to serve certain things, certain nutrients. Kids were REQUIRED to put said foods on their plates, even if it was only a bite size piece. They were not required to eat or taste it. The theory is that it takes thirteen exposures to an unfamiliar food to even want to taste it. They could not make bad comments about the food, but could say "no thank you" when they were asked to taste it. Some people dislike certain foods not because of taste, but because of texture, how it feels to their mouth. Sometimes it is because of how food looks. I remember a kiddo who got literally sick from mixed foods, just seeing a fruit salad or a cabbage slaw. Some foods I do not eat because of mental associations. I made something while my daughter and her kids were here. No one liked it. Honestly it was not as good as it could have been.We all ate some of it, and filled up on the part of the meal we liked best.I considered my mom to be a picky eater, but as I am older I know that she had bad reactions to certain foods and ingredients. Exposure in childhood to a variety of foods allows kids to round out their tastes.

I was a very picky eater as a kid. My mother was a horrible cook and I thought food just tasted bad. It wasn’t until I started eating lunch in high school that I discovered food actually tastes good it was just my moms food didn’t. My daughter is a very picky eater. She has sensory processing disorder so texture makes me feel sick. It has gotten worse as she got older instead of better. My son who has aspergers would only eat items made from chicken for many years. I am thankfully he started trying new things. I never forced him too but would offer him new things. He eats much more variety of foods now and is usually willing to try anything new.

@Butterfingers Yes true When I was a child I hated ochro. I thought if was the worse thing ever. When I became an adult and over the years I start to eat it because of the nutritional benefits

I have eaten foods I didn't like when very hungry. When I was a single mom, money was tight and I made sure they were fed before me. However, if there is a food that I gag on, I won't eat it even if hungry.

How I was raised was it was ok to not like things , but had to at least try it. I think that's fair. No kids here and not going to have any. If I'm at someone's place I will take a small potion even if I don't like the item, but I won't sit there and carry on and whine about how I don't like it like I've seen some adults and kids alike, do.

I avoid certain foods too which I know I shouldn't because it does make things difficult when someone at my home needs to cook food so they need to cook different dishes or totally avoid cooking a Dish which I don't like, which I'm guilty of many times
