The news of the new variant emerging from South Africa prompted a swift reaction from several countries, including Britain, which on Friday imposed a travel ban on several southern African countries with immediate effect, a decision South Africa has strongly contested.
Dr. Angelique Coetzee, a private practitioner and chair of South African Medical Association, told Reuters that on Nov. 18 she noticed seven patients at her clinic who had symptoms different from the dominant Delta variant, albeit "very mild".
"Most of them are seeing very, very mild symptoms and none of them so far have admitted patients to surgeries. We have been able to treat these patients conservatively at home," she said.
Seems there has been a panic early in many countries with this variant.

The US also imposed travel restrictions from Africa yesterday over the new variant Omicron.

@CarolDM I read yesterday that experts say the new variant may already be present in the US.

The symptoms of this variant are more like the typical flu virus. Stay in bed(warm), drink plenty of liquid, ride out the storm at home. Where this will be dangerous is with babies and the elderly, who don't have a strong immune system.

@CarolDM There are millions of viruses, some we never experience.

@kobesbuddy Exactly and the countries should not be panicking and already doing travel bans until they know what they are dealing with.

This is what confuses me. I have been reading too. I know Omicron is highly contagious, but is very mild.

@CarolDM The European medical authorities are examining the patients who are now sick with the new mutation. The scientists are criticizing the South African doctor who spoke without even having enough knowledge... more a political declaration than other. It is a shame!

You can thank the media for that. Ever since COVID 19 has been announced as a threat, they've done a good job of lying and spreading fear. So, now if you hear variant.... you think worst case.

Yes so they say, but apparently it has the most mutations.

I think anything that seems to show a new variant like this after all that people have already gone through is going to bring some panic, People have just had enough of worry and doubt and disease,
