Yup it is here. I never doubted for a second that it would be here or that it already was. The first case was found in California several days ago. Now they have confirmed a second case in Minnesota in a person who has recently traveled to New York City to attend an anime convention. The individual was vaccinated and developed mild symptoms. Omicron is a variant of interest because it has a TON of new protein spike mutations that may allow the virus to evade the protection provided by the current vaccines. It is good to know that the Minnesota guy has only mild symptoms though.
Scientists are racing to determine the Omicron coronavirus variant's severity, transmissibility and whether it evades current vaccines. Follow here for the latest news.

It was inevitable. I hope it remains a mild virus to those that are vaccinated and also those that aren't vaccinated.

Our scientists who have been looking at it for a wee while now have said its highly unlikely any of the vaccines available now will be very effective against it. Once I knew it had reached America, I decided not to be called Omicron any more. I felt people might be offended. Don't want that now, do I?

@TheSojourner But I do offend people because I say what I think and most people these days actually get off on being offended. They love it. Because they can moan about it. They need to grow a skin.
