Day 178 Psalm 56:1 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresses me. 2 My enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many who fight against me, O thou Most-High. 3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will praise His Word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. 5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. 6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps when they wait for my soul. 7 Shall they escape by iniquity? In thine anger cast down the people, O God. 8 You tell my wanderings: put my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? 9 When I cry unto thee, then shall my enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. 10 In God will I praise His Word: in the LORD will I praise His Word. 11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. 12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee. 13 For You delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living? Do you feel alone as though everyone is against you? David often felt alone. You hear it in his prayers. He knew the only person he could trust was God. When his enemies surrounded him, he prayed. He trusted God to deliver him from his enemies. David praised God even when it looked like there was no reason for praise. As Christians, can you praise God when your world tumbles around you? Do you pray and give everything into God’s hands? Or do you wallow in your circumstances? Do you face situations that want to swallow you up and destroy your faith? Satan will do everything he can to destroy you, cause you to lose faith, and turn away from God. It is in those times when you need to praise God, not wallow in your circumstances. By yourself, you can do nothing. With God, you can do everything. Trust God. Lean on Him. Let Him lead you when life turns against you. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (KJV) David didn’t hang his head and wonder where help would come from. He prayed. He didn’t wallow in fear. He prayed. David didn’t allow his enemies to rule over him. He took the matter straight to God and gave it into His hands. What do you face? Sickness, death, rebellious children, financial ruin? Satan brings all these upon you to tear you down, destroy your faith and turn your eyes away from Jesus. Don’t let Satan destroy your testimony. God has you covered. He promised to take care of you in every situation you face. God can turn everything Satan does for evil into good. If He can do that for David, Abraham, Joseph, Job, Israel, He can do it for you too. Trust Him and watch God work in your life. Let’s pray: Father, help me trust Your promises to keep me safe when Satan comes against me to destroy my life and my faith. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. I love studying the life of David. A perfect man, far from it. But he knew who to look to. Great study. Have a blessed day.
