Day 184
Psalm 66
Psalm 66:17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
19 But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me. (KJV)
Everyone wants to be heard. They don’t want their words to fall on deaf ears.
David prayed often and urged the people to pray and sing God’s praises for everything He did for them.
Psalm 66:1 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
2 Sing forth the honor of his name: make his praise glorious.
3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
As Christians, when was the last time you burst forth in praise to God? When did you pray and worship Him with your whole heart and magnify His glorious name?
Often, the only prayers God hears are prayers for help. People want things from God but they give nothing to God. God wants His people to praise Him, acknowledging what He does for them. He wants you to thank Him for helping you. Praise should come easily to your lips.
What crisis did you just come through? Did you praise God for helping you? Prayer isn’t only for those times when you need help. It’s for those times when you don’t need help; when your life is good and you can feel God’s goodness around you.
David showed when God doesn’t hear you. When you have sin in your heart. You know what sin is. When you focus on sin and let it fester, God won’t hear your prayers. It’s only when you let go of your sin, pray and ask God’s forgiveness, that He will hear you.
Pay attention today to everything God does for you. It’s in the little things as well as the big things. When you recognize and praise God for what He alone can do for you, you will find God’s hand of blessing on your life in greater ways. Start now. Praise God for your ability to read this study. Praise Him for waking you up and giving you breath in your body. Praise Him for your heartbeat. Then notice all the other things God does for you and praise Him. Thank Him for being your God and taking care of you.
Prayer isn’t only for times of crisis. It’s for every time in your life. Praise Him and give Him thanks.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for being my God. Help me praise You every day for all You do for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The other day a neighbor sat down with me at the community room table and poured his thoughts out about an encounter he had with another neighbor. Then, a few minutes later, another neighbor stopped and poured her thoughts out to be about an abusive relationship she was in that recently ended. I listened to both neighbors and only offered advice when they asked.
I thanked and praised God for both conversations immediately upon each ending and again before going to bed.
Neither neighbor had ever opened up to me like that before I moved into my downstairs apartment. And neither knows I am a psychologist, but I can't practice or charge a fee because I did not take my clinicals.
