As the world is turning into cashless society, even beggars have laminated QR codes while begging on the streets. Technology has advanced but I wonder if there poverty level has changed. A utopia would be AI doing menial jobs while people living life leisurely and doing higher pursuits like creative work and self development A dystopian scenario would be a one world authoritarian government ruling everyone like slaves like in George Orwell's 1984 book . I wonder which one will be the reality in the next decade.

There are beggars in India with even Doctorates! A few even managed to earn enough to buy a house! When asked, many beggars say that begging is their profession just like being a doctor is to some!! However, sadly, there are most beggars who are forced into this work by unscrupulous gangs who take most of the money that they collect. Even NGOs cannot do much about them.

@yoalldudes It is like a very educated person opting for a career as an Underworld don!! By the way many in politics here are also seen in a negative light!!

Or they may just be taken advantage of those that are tech-savvy syndicates in the hope that someone would take pity on them and pay them virtually. I really do not think that they are that knowledge that they have their virtual wallets and could access them online.

That aspect came up in this discussion. I never thought of it that way but I was perplexed at how they learn the technology. That could be a possible explanation.

@yoalldudes I think that is very much possible that someone is taking advantage of their poverty that they are given those QR codes and just share meager earnings from what they earn from it. For any beggars, I think that would be acceptable just to survive.

@rsa101 Do you think we should give or dont give to beggars? After all, its like their survival income. But the scary part is if the bad people use the money for other criminal activities which are terrifying.

I think it s a necessity because some would want to give them donation but doesnt have cash on hand and only have money in their phones.

@yoalldudes The beggars' masters would be training them. Often with the collusion of police!

Technology has invaded everyone's life irrespective of the economic status. I don't encourage begging. And many of these beggars are actually a fake one. It's a big racket in India. I overlook them. One can earn with dignity doing menial jobs.

@yoalldudes I feel the same way. And I keep reading about how it's a big syndicate racket. I chose not to help and ignore. Though it is very tough to do so at times.

Although I want to help people on the streets, I become hesitant because it is like encouraging them. Im conflicted in this area.

Still better to teach to fish than to give fish. Those people cause injustice to those who reallly need help.

Things are getting to the level of "1984" combined with a healthy dose of "Brave New World." It is very scary to see what is happening and I don't know how to stop it.

I hope slowly people wake and not just embrace whatever is thrown at us.

We almost wound up with something like that here in the US. Democracy prevailed by a precariously small margin. I don't give money to beggars, whether they be Donald Trump or guys (and gals) at stoplights. But I DO give time and material objects like clothing to those I can tell are in need.

This Orwellian 'prophecy' seems to be happening now. And many of us freedom-loving humanity won't have it! I have not submitted to any QR/digital identification or passport.
18 Dec 21
@yoalldudes I agree. I still have faith in humanity, our children the younger generation in the ways of God and His purpose. I have come across a group and shared 1 Corinthians 2. It strengthened my trust, hope and purpose -- no matter what. "No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no one’s heart has imagined all the things that God has prepared for those who love him.” Isaiah 64:4 God bless you, too!

@everwonderwhy That is good. Spreading positivity and unity is what we can do. I like the video by Abhigya where he mentioned about praying to god, whichever religion because all religions it is the same one God.

It seems a lot of people are starting to become aware. I was thinking if people let this happen the children would think it is the normal way of life. They can be easily brainwashed. So it seems the responsibility of this generation to make sure that we preserve the freedom. But I think one will be able to resist only if one is self sufficient. Some are investing in farmlands and homesteads.

What my husband and I can do is invite a beggar in a take-away counter of a restaurant and order for them and we'd pay for what they want.
