Hope you are all having a nice Christmas Day. I am smelling dinner in the oven and my poor stomach is having quite a time. I found some interesting facts about Christmas which I wanted to share: Fact #1 Popular Christmas songs are not about Jesus but more about the trappings, Santa, and sleigh bells. Jewish songwriters have written many a tune for the Yuletide. Such as "Silver Bells," "White Christmas," "Let It Snow," "Santa Baby," "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and "A Holly Jolly Christmas." (My favorite is "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" sung by Nat King Cole). Fact #2 While Theodore Roosevelt was the White House president (1901-1909)Christmas trees were banned at the White House. He felt that Christmas trees could lead to deforestation and he didn't want to send a wrong message to the public. But, his son, Archie, dragged in a small tree and hid it in a closet. Fact #3 In the early days, Santa was depicted as more of a tall, gaunt, and spooky elf-looking fellow dressed in animal skin and bishop's robe. Until 1931 when an illustrator at Coca-Cola totally redesigned his image to use in the company's magazine ads. This is how he is pictured today. Fact #4 Queen Victoria of England was introduced to Christmas trees by her husband Prince Albert. In his homeland of Germany, it was a tradition to decorate trees back to medieval times. The idea went viral after a picture of the couple standing in front of their Christmas tree appeared in the London News in 1848. Merry Christmas to all! Image courtesy of Freedomain- public domain.

Jews did a lot. Writing songs is just one.

Italian popular Christmas songs are all and only about Jesus, Santa came in the recent years only. I like to decorate a Christmas tree, but the nativity scene is always present in my home.
