Good day to you all,
So tired right now not sure I am going to be working so early tomorrow. Was a long and tiring day, but at least we got a lot done at work.
I just read that Richard Marcinko died on Christmas day at the age of 81. If you don’t know who he is let me tell you a little about him.
Commander Marcinko served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1989. In that time he was awarded over a dozen medals including the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star x4, Navy Commendation Metal x2 and many other accommodations.
He would serve two tours in Vietnam as part of SEAL Team 2 and after that he would be the Naval Attache to Cambodia in 1973.
Commander Marcinko was the first commander of SEAL Team 6. In 1979, he was tasked to design and develop this new counter-terrorist and hostage rescue team. He named it SEAL Team 6 to confuse other countries since the Navy only had two SEAL Teams at the time.
Commander Marcinko would command SEAL Team 6 for 3 years, a year longer than the billet called for. Upon releasing command of the team he would be tasked with designing a team to test the Navy’s vulnerability to terrorism. This team would become known as Red Cell.
To say he was a warrior’s warrior might be an understatement.
